Hacking SigmaTel Drivers for E1705/9400, i need knowledgable helpers - Page 25

Hi all,

Does anyone have an ini for a Dell M2010? I believe it should be 92XXD8-1.INI of 122161. If not, I'd like to put one together. Can someone point me to some info on these ini files? Is there any reference or discussion at all for what the parameters in the ini files are? Some of them are obvious what they are. Many are not. I tried to take the modded 92XXD2-3.INI and merge it in to my 92XXD8-1.INI but I must have clobbered something, it won't install. No sound. I can reinstall the original and everything is Ok again.

How did you guys who have done this get started? All experimenting? Did you find any good info looking around?

If anyone has any info to share or links to post that may help me come up to speed on this I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi,
I am also running a Dell M2010 with Vista, and pleased to find someone else who has one as well.
I was using the 144073 driver from Dell, and this meant I could listen to sound but the Stereo Mix option was not visible. Normally 122161 wouldnt even give me sound, but I tried the hacked version of this under post 448, and this gave me sound but I still cant find the Stereo Mix option to record sound internally.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get this to work?

Dexmo is you get yours working then please let me know how you did it??
Thank you!

Thank You rehullmedia and Dell. I downloaded the driver and it seems to work fine on my Dell Vostro 1400 with Vista. I don't know that I needed to but I ran it in XP SP2 compatibility mode. I finally have Stereo Mix on my new laptop like my several years old laptop had. Randy

Thanks for the heads up. Works on my M2010.

So Dell, how about enabling the other 99% of the features that driver is capable of instead of just throwing us some crumbs? Stereo mix? Oh boy! How impressive!

Man, now they need to finally put out vista drivers for the 92XX that match the XP one. I have an Inspiron 6400 now, after my 6000 uh, kinda started to melt (don't ask), and I almost miss the old crappy AC-97 sound from it, because at least the vista drivers I had, let the Stereo Mix work. I actually have the 6.10.0.5609 drivers installed on here, but nada. I've tried hacking apart the INI file that has all the goodies in the WDM folder to the point I start to cry when I think about it. (j/k)

Any ideas anyone?

For everyone's info, Dell released an "official" driver for Windows XP (sorry, not Vista) the D630 and all associated SigmaTel STAC 92xx powered systems. (D620, D830, basically D4x0, D6x0, D8x0)... Anyway... The update *allows* Stereo Out (!!!), but disables the entire SigmaTel control panel. That said, I'm considering this a suitable replacement for the hacked driver, and updated my blog entry at http://www.togeo.com/togeo/wordpress/?p=38 to reflect this.

I don't know if it's totally fixed the stutter/skip issue some were having, only time will tell!

You can get it from here:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R171789.exe

Or, the non-direct link, in case you want to read all about it first:

Enjoy!

Bah! It's for XP, in case anyone was wondering. Damn you, Vista!! (heck...damn you, Dell!!!)

Randye101 you are an absolute genius!!

Ive been trying for ages to get a driver for my M2010 with Vista to give me StereoMix and by following your tip of installing the official Dell R171789 under Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode it now works perfectly.

I couldnt even run this driver normally under Vista, I had to go into XP SP2 Compatibility mode to get it to work, and then it just worked a charm.

For anyone running Vista who needs Stereo Mix I would recommend you try this method, even if your machine isnt listed by Dell. My M2010 wasnt and it is still working at the moment - so give it a go!

Cheers Randye101

The solution for Vista using the new Dell XP driver WORKS! Great job to those previous posts that suggested it! It is important to install under XP compatibility mode. To do that, right click on the setup file and select the "compatibility" tab. Select XP SP2 compability. Then go out of properties and double click on the setup file to install.

When you go into the audio properties, you'll now have a Stereo Mix option. But the one thing that I didn't expect was that only one recording input can be selected at once. This might be able to be done where levels are set, but I was in Control Panel when I first tried it. Microphone was enabled, so I had to disable it and also line in, then right click and enable Stereo Mix.

The driver works great. The Audacity software is also a great way to make use of it and record what you're hearing.

Are you serious!?!? That's great!!! I'll try it in a few myself.

HOLY TOLEDO!!!!

It WORKED!!! Just do it exactly like MaxfieldML said above, and you don't even need to reboot!!

Thanks guys!

Thanks from me too. I was very frustrated when I had just bought a new Dell XPS M1530 Vista notebook and did not have Stereo Mix. I deleting the current driver from the sound card in Control Panel. As you suggested I downloaded the driver from your link and double clicked to expand the files. I canceled the installation, went to the expanded folder, modified the properties of the setup.exe file to run in Windows XP compatibility mode. I double clicked the setup file and proceeded with the installation. As far as I can tell everything, including Stereo Mix, is working for my XPS M1530. Thanks for the help. I am a man.

Any chance this sigmatel driver could work on a HP laptop? If not, does anyone know where I might find the equivalent driver for an HP? Thanks.

I would like to change my sound output from jack to the mic, could somebody help me doing this? i dont know where to start
post #498 of 561
OK...so my wife broke the headphone jack on her e1705 laptop and the internal speakers won't come on anymore. I opened the sucker up to see if I could resolder them only to find they are very tiny and it appears the solder pads broke off (at least I can't find anything that will hold solder there...). I tried modding the .ini file with some success in that now I have audio from the front speakers, but the sub doesn't work. Can someone confirm that the dual audio (speaker and headphone) hack allows the sub to work, also? Maybe I just didn't plug in back in all the way. The new drivers use 92xxm2-7.ini for e1705's. I'm deleting this line from pin\0d to restore speaker functionality:

Action = hex: 80,00,81,0E,87,00

I've also tried the old drivers with no success on the sub. Anyone?

I tried just installing the LG drivers on my e1505. No good, got my mic loopback working, but it killed what little functioning spdif I had. I have the svideo / spdif adapter and could only get PCM output to work. All the fancy controls are there, but they don't do anything. Anyone had any luck messing around with the e1505's drivers recently? I tried some from an earlier post and it killed my sound entirely.

ice_cool, I tried what you did and it worked, except now I can't seem to unmute my microphone (so i can hear myself in my head set you know?) It's very odd...I tried the suggestions at http://dellcommunity.com/supportforu...ssage.id=29912 but they don't seem to be working now...very strange...does anyone have any suggestions? It would be nice to have someone hack the actual vista driver ini file(s)...I'd do it, but not sure how... Anyway, thanks a ton for any suggestions! This forum is great, I've been a lurker for months.
