Oh I was talking about the stac97 overall. If you open the .cpl file in resource hacker you can see the dialog boxes that supposedly can be unlocked.

Well, as pertainant to my stac97, I did manage to find this:

well that about does it for any hope of getting my laptop speakers back up and functioning...I'm not really too keen on editing and tweaking .ini's, sort of at a loss. I tried the toshiba driver set from the above post, but as I figured seemingly no control over output routing or the like. Anyone else in the 9300 realm know anything more? curious. I always thought of trying to just jump the connection where the headphone jack used to be, but its a motherf***er to access.

shrug.

From the thread, about the utility:

It is. And it's SOFTWARE too; my cpu usage increases with about 3% when turning it on.

So for music it's like turning on some DSP/Effect plugin for Winamp

But thanks for the link

Well, all I want is an equalizer of some sort in my Advanced Volume Control. I have great interest in this thread, but so far nothing has been modded for the stac97 for my needs here, and I have no idea how to do any of this stuff.

Like I stated earlier, I've gone into the registry and enabled everything I could find, so my volume control panel has all sorts of crap on it, but no equalizer of any kind. I still can't move the Bass & Treble sliders in Advanced Volume.

I use WMP 11, and the things that are on the Toshiba software come on in WMP anyway, so then it's really just running two instances of the same audio software. I'll probably uninstall it after I play around with it a little more.

Am I missing something?

I downloaded the Dell Drivers for my XPS M2010 laptop from http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R122161.EXE

After extracting I copied over the 92xxm2-3.ini file posted above.

I still don't have the stereo mix option though. It isn't available to select as a recording device. Any ideas?

Inspiron 9400 Laptop StigmaTel Sound Card

Hi peeps,

I have tried various solutions and ended up with most stuff working, in that I can get the Sigmatel control panel to work with everthing that I require.

The two main things I needed was Stereo Mix and Input Monitor, after messing around with restoring stuff and installing over other drivers (as mentioned in this thread) not everything works but is better than the installed software. I might mention that I purchased the SB software to sort out issues but this did not work and seemed a was a waste of money (it did supply a mixer and equaliser but not the Stereo Mix or Input Monitor though).

Thank you to all that have experimented with the INI installation files,. Unfortunately I'm unable to duplicate exactly what I did - it took hours of messing around with different drivers - and the INI files in this thread. I still get errors in the CPL file but as I said the bit I needed worked- why the Dell drivers and programs don't have this control panel can only be due to new laws regarding copyright issues (e.g. the Stereo Mix not being available).

I'm sorry I can add no further advise but can state that with a bit of know how and help from this forum I'm happy - although to re-install from scratch would be a nightmare,.

The M2010 probably uses one of the other ini files then.

Any idea how to tell which INF file is being used? I did try running filemon from SysInternals but it seemed to just access all the INF files so didn't really tell me anything.

Could I do something like edit the device descriptions by appending a unique letter to find out which gets installed?

Once I know, what exactly do I need to do to the INF file? I diffed the original and modified one posted here and there looked to be a large number of changes. What change do I need to enable Stereo Mix? Thats all I need.

Falerus,

Thanks, your patch has fixed a problem I've been having on my 1710, that is - the speakers don't work in windows. They work fine for the diagnostic program, but boot windows, and only the headphone jack works.

I used your inf file, and I have speakers again. Just to see if it was a one-off thing, I reinstalled the Dell drivers, and my speakers went away again.

I don't think this is a plug issue, since I didn't have headphones plugged in when the issue developed... any idea what's going on?

garysargent: it's very easy!!
Just look at these lines which depends on the ini file your are looking:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CD=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CE=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CF=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=this
and try to find yours which is in the audio device'properties (in the tab "Details"). That's it!

Is anyone else getting static when they reboot their laptop from the speakers? It happens from the moment windows activates the sound drivers during the graphical boot loader progress bar all the way to the point where you're at the windows desktop, past the startup sound, and then it just suddenly cuts the static, and audio will work perfectly from within windows without any static whatsoever. But it does the static during startup, and it's a very disconcerting sound. Only happened after applying patched INI file.

wow good work sofar! was happy to find this post today as i just recently figured out my m1710 cant record stereo mix. i bought the thing primarily for recording music not just from the line in, but also from softsynths and other audio programs. didnt sit down and really try to figure out why the stereo mix wasnt an option until today

anyway i tried the .ini in post #62 and it did add the stereo mix which does work, and the headphone jack shuts off the built in speakers as it should. but when i try to record from stereo mix, i get this very slight almost ring mod effect on the recording. the actual audio out while i am recording is fine, its just the final recording that doesnt sound right.

ive tried with several recording programs along with several different softsynths, also changing the avalible audio settingson the panel, and get the same results. when i tried recording the same way from mp3s it was not very noticable unless its a quiet song, but its still there.

so has anyone else noticed this? im hoping theres somthing simple im overlooking here. i can post examples if needed

I noticed the same thing after I installed the driver and I use Sony SoundForge. I saw an option in SoundForge that said "Enable Audio Input Monitoring" and I unchecked it, fixed my problem.

Dunno if that helps any, but may give ya somethin' to look for. (Also make sure "Input Monitor" is muted on your Volume Controls)

I have not done this mod, but I have enabled everything in my registry regarding the volume controls, and I get a some static upon coldboot.
I have:
Volume Control
Wave
SW Wave
CD Player
Subwoofer
Headphones
3D Depth
Aux
Video
Line In
Microphone
Phone Line
PC Speaker

Some are muted, and playback for mp3, etc sounds like crap if they are not muted. But I think the static at startup is Windows muting the ones that are selected.

Ok I found the right inf file (8_1) and edited it in a similar way to those done in this thread. I now have lots more options, and the Stereo Mix is present. Only thing is, stereo mix doesn't work! When selected it just behaves as though the last selected input it still selected. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

I fixed the static by reinstalling the default Sigmatel drivers and therefore not getting the Stereo Mix option. It is one of those registry settings. Perhaps the folks here who were so adept at modifying registry could help find a solution to this static.

Run regedit and search for "3DDepthEnable".
It'll show a list of features you can enable or disable.
For example, in the list you'll see "EnableAux" with "00 00 00 00" after it.
Double click it and make the last digits "01" (the equvilent of "yes"). There will be an Aux slider on your advanced volume control when you reboot.
Just do a few at a time.

Some of the features will work, and some won't.
DON'T go making stuff up, like "EnableBass" & "EnableTreble". I blue-screened when I did that.

thanks for the suggestions. theres a couple of monitoring options in audition, some that make the problem worse, or rather just make it echo like crazy, but i still havent found anything to make the ringing stop.

im still thinking it is either somthing with the drivers or the way the computer was made because even when i record with the basic windows sound recorder i get the same results. yea i've had input monitor muted the whole time, and ive tried all the different audio options but none of them seem to make a difference.

im going to keep experimenting with different settings, and maybe even look at the ini to see if i notice anything there. havent seen anyone with an m1710 post after me, curious if they are having the same problem and just dont notice because as i said, when recording mp3 or music with alot going on it is alot less noticable.

next time i'm on i'll post an example so it is more clear what i am talking about
