Can i let my e1505 ON for long period of time?

Hi,
I want to download a video on my friend's FTP, but it's a big file and it would take like 15-20 hours. I'd like to know if i could let it ON like all night to download or i shouldnt do that. And for sure it would be on the AC line not battery

And if i let it ON for long period like that (10-15 hours) should I buy a cooling fan to put under the laptop or it doesnt really matter? Because i put some "shim" under four corner so the laptop is not flat on the desk. I let it ON last night for about 5 hours and HD temps was 46 C . and tonigt i'll intall A08 Bios and see if it helps !!

Ohh I see , i was worried about leting ON for a like 15-20 hours .

It'S my first laptop, my desktops were always ON but didnt know for laptop if it was good or not.
do you use any cooling system under it or 46C is normal temp for HD?

thanks for your fast reply!

they run hot if you leave them on for a long time, but it's expected. probably a good idea to use a cooler, but if you don't just make sure it's on a hard surface that the laptop can't sink down in (there may be cooling slots on the bottom side that could get blocked)

it's wise that you were worried. 46c is quite cool! Don't think you'll have a problem unless the room itself gets quite a bit hotter

My e1505 has been on since the day it arrived. Same with my previous 1150.

Mine? CoreDuo 2500, 1GB, 80GB 7200 rpm, 85W battery, x1400, etc. Pretty well outfitted.

I never turn off my laptop. As long as there's good ventilation around the underside of the system, you're fine. I recommend getting something like this:

I leave my D820 powered on in its docking station for days at a time with no ill effect. I would suggest though that you set your screen to power down when not used for a period of time. LCDs do have Lightbulbs and Lightbulbs are known to burn out.

My 8600 runs for about 10 hours a day for over 2 years. No problems at all.
