7500 drive in a TM8204?

I'm going to be running some video editing applications on an TM8204,some of this stuff will be hi def if the system can do it, I have a feeling it will just about have to have a 7200rpm OS drive and an external 7500RPM drive(which is a given for me). I know there are some 7200rpm notebook drives from Seagate and Hitachi, has anyone gone this route and put a 7500rpm drive in an 8204? If so what did you use and would you recommend it.

Thanks

Mike

Should be interesting to hear about your experiences... please tell us the brand and expecially about noise and heat with 7.2k instead of 5.4k RPM

I will Keep you informed

It may be a couple of weeks, I still want to look around, I think I'm going to go with a Seagate 100gb and see what happens. I just got the 8204 today and I havent had time to really look at things yet. So far so good. I got a 03/06 build (US Date ) and the screen looks good no dark corners or grey lines.I still want to put it through some tests with the 5400 but I definatly be going with a 7200 in the very near future. I know that this may trash the warrenty but I will look into that to.

I've been looking into this for a while. To be frank, my reason for doing so is to improve bootspeed and increase storage capacity. Applications run very well on the 8204. Photoshop and the whole adobe suite load quickly and run smoothly on the 5400RPM drive. Video encoding and audio editing also easily handled. Hidef video editing is out of my area of use, so I will not comment on it. But judging by the performance of this machine thus far, I would say give it a few days of testing with your editing needs first. In regards to the new 7200rpm drive that would be switched to, I've read mixed reviews about it although the majority of people experience improved performance and, suprisingly, get less heat. It is counterintuitive to say that upgrading will decrease heat output; so I would hold my breath on that. What I would like to know is how the battery would be affected by it. Obviously lasting shorter, but by how much. Good luck and please send your feed back.

Great Points

I really love this Laptop I havent ran any hidef applications on it but I did run three firewire cameras off of it without a hitch. Most of the laptops I have delt with crash and burn on this test with this paticular program, or should I say the camera pic locks up.

As far as the hard drives go, heat will be an issue I'm sure, I'm going to take your advice and do some playing around, this unit does some suprising things and I cant' wait to spend a while exploring the possabilites.

Thanks for the input

Mike
