well overall looking at the unmbers id say it would be the winner...

in gaming only the xps had a better score, and these are gaming laptops...

i woudlnt take the xps over the AW because 1 its not as upgradeableand its an eyesore.
I thought the XPS was upgradeable. They didn't mention it in that particular article, but I thought I'd seen that touted elsewhere.

Also, it's unfortunate that they didn't show a Sager 5680 or 8890 alongside the rest. That would've been a great roundup. As it was, it looked to me like AW wasn't the strongest in all fields, rather won because it was solid across the board instead of being strong in one area and weak in another. Nothing wrong w/ that. Really would've smoked if AW had the dual-channel memory.

The XPS is upgradeable but there are two things about it. The upgrade is a one time thing and also someone from Dell has to install it. They don't care if you're an expert they have to do it. Alienware will send you the upgrade and you can do it yourself by they recommend that you're on the phone while doing it.

Siddeous, How did you make out with your Alienware? Did everything get resolved ok?
I would pick the 9100 any days its basically the XPS without those silly covers and the 50% price premium by the way does anyone else see that the alienware has a typo since apparenty the Radeon 9700 Mobile is faster than the geforce 5900 go! 5900!?!
wow....I jock voodoo's m855.....
*runs to voodoo to see what El Presidente has to say bout it.....he aint gunna be happy, thats 4 sure!"
Its too bad the tech rats didnt consider customer service in the review as it is a very important part of a 3k+ investment, doubt they've ever been on the troubling end of alienwares tech support.
These guys really should have had the same video card in all the machines for this to be comparable. This test is actually a video card performace test rather than a notebook performance test. At least having an ATI card in the AW would have made the comparison a little better, but the advantage of a 9700 in the XPS was sure to give it the crown. Silly TechTV wennies.
As the test had the criticism of missing dual channel memory on the 51m- I wonder if it's really a big deal ? A quick look at the net said the impact is marginal...so I guess waiting for that to become available would be pointless??
not so- dual channel is just that- twice the bandwidth, they just only did one test that take advantage of the added bandwidth
post #12 of 27
This editor pick isn't important, they gave alienware basically because of the design and user upgrade GPU. They didn't give it based upon the spec and price.
yup, and it was a gfx card intensive benchmark set, and they all used different cards....apples and oranges

I would like to know what the sager website is

I'm not so sure about dual-channels actual impact on real-world programs, but for one thing I agree with everybody else; this review is worthless because of all the different video cards; they've turned it into a video card review rather than a laptop review.

If you are looking to buy, or price check out the www.pctorque.com site, they are who do this forum and are a heck of alot cheaper from what I've read, but I never priced a Sager, so check it out yourself for the price.

XPS wins...+ their LCD is the best according to several reports

Tom's, anandtech and hardocp have made references to the Dell XPS display being the best LCD they have ever seen (Not directly yet, but it is clear that it is the XPS display they are talking about). It supposedly has the fastest pixel refresh rate of any LCD. That alone is why I'll buy one when the price comes down unless Sager can step up and get a better display.

well, yet another useless online review of notebooks. Not even a mention of the rest of the stats like hd speed, processor speed, amount of memory (unless I missed something), and other important info.

Not to mention portablitly, the voodoo weighs alot less than any sager or alienware(not coutning the sentia or the sager portables.)
