FYI, there is a new writeup and review for the XPS in Computer Gaming World this month (4/2004). Just tossing it out there, form your own opinions. 4 out of 5 stars. I haven't read it yet. They still have never done one on AW, I think the reviewer is a Dell/Toshiba Gomer from what he's said in the past...

Before I made my decision to get an AW, when I was looking around, I considered the Voodoo. Then I thought "Hell no!" for two reasons:

1) Not upgradable like an AW
2) Costs 1000$ more for the same thing

1> Voodoo's are FULLY upgradeable!! No user swappable gfx cards!, but as stated in other posts, when pci express hits laptops later this year, all laptops will have user upgradeable gfx cards and alienware's current implementation will be obsolete.

2> As a happy Alienware owner and a fan of Voodoo I emplore you to do some more research on this subject. Voodoo offers MUCH more than alienware in terms of hardware, warranty, and customer service. Is the extra product worth 1k, thats a personal decision, but to say "1000$ more for same thing" is wreckless imo.

What I mean is, if I wanted to upgrade the GPU in the Voodoo PC in a few months, I probably couldn't do it for 200$ US. They'd probably require that I ship it to them and replace the whole motherboard, which costs a LOT more.

When I say for the same thing, I mean, for the same specs. Unfortunately I don't have money coming out the wazoo, so while I am willing to pay a premium to get an Alienware, I'm not willing to pay the even higher premium for the Voodoo.

If I'm not mistaken...

Voodoo is using daughter boards for their Video cards...they are hardwired but can be changed out without replacing the entire motherboard.

Yup, and even then u will only pay for the gfx card and not the mother/daughterboard upgrades. Its not as cool as user swappable, but it is still the best (non user swappable) upgrade/warranty in the industry!!
