"i9kfangui is not compatable with the new Dell Duo Core laptops" ?!?

Thread Starter
My bro got a e1705 yesterday and I would recommend the "i9kfangui" because I've seen people using it on forums. But when I got in the authors page I saw:

i9kfangui is not compatable with the new Dell Duo Core laptops at this time.

Please do not install or use i9kfangui with these laptops, there are some issues with the fan controls. I will try to get these sorted out in version 2.4, due out after the release of version 2.3

Thanks!

It's dated as "Friday, 10 February 2006".. Someone could tell me which is the bug/problem free version for e1705 (dual-core)..??

Thanks

I downloaded from here:

And it's working perfectly for my E1705

I think i8kfangui is working fine on most if not all dell core duo systems. I have it working on both of my m1210's with core duo processors.

I think the person who came up with I9KFANGUI stole the idea from the guy who made I8KFANGUI. Kinda' like the "who would want 7 minute abs when you can have 6 minute abs?" question. People think "hey, if I8K is good, then I9K must be better" so they download that one. Stick with I8KFANGUI...it rocks!

the diff between i8kfangui and i9kfangui is that w/ the latest version of the i8kfangui, you will be able to force your 2nd fan at high speed. you could do the same thing w/ the i9kfangui, but it always slows down to like 3300ish for me after about 5 minutes. my GPU is NOTICABLY (sp?) cooler now that i'm using the i8kfangui, by about 10 degrees C! (by keeping it at 4680RPM)

i dunno if that's just the case for me, or if anyone else has had similar experiences, but that diff alone has made me dump i9kfangui in favor of the i8kfangui.

yeah, i have no problems with I8k on my M1710

i might have a problem, i8k is reading my cpu temp as 40 C but everest is reading it as 51 C. that seems dangerous for a fan control to be reading low, what should i do? can i trust i8k?

EDIT: I8k is reading gpu 47 and everest is reading 55.
how do i stop i8k from controlign the fans?

Shigera, if you go in the options, you can find a way to adjust the temp so that it is reading correctly. I did that on my m170 to read the GPU temp properly (i.e. same as the nVidia control panel)

dang, i left the fans on low all the time then uninstalled it and rebooted, but the fans were still stuck on. (there almost never on during normal use) so i did a system restore to yesterday, when i didn't have it installed, but the fans were still stuck on! so now i am stuck using it. but the problem is, when i play oblivion it screws up big time in ways it hasn't before. a few times when i went through a door, on the other side there would be like a 10X10 grid of simple colors, blue, yellow, red, green ect with a few gaps so i could see the room. after about a minit the room would load, all my HUD items were a jarbled mess, and some textures looked random too. my frame rate was below 1, it would draw a frame every 10 seconds or so! this happened a few times. there were som other major glitches too, but i don't have time to explain them now. I had the fans on high then to see how cool i could make it gaming. Why would it do this? i was on AC power, so i don't think it was an issue like that. but maby it was, because the fans would slow down for a split second every once in a while. what is wong, and how do i uninstall the i8k fan control, but reinstall the dell ones?

i8k or i9k they both are not really functional on due core system. M170 runs great, but you don't really need it becasue the older version BIOs control the fans pretty good. M1710 BIOS lets fans turn on at 70C which is pretty lame... but if I use i8k, the performance decrease... i8k also incompatible with Bitcom 0.7. I will run into freeze this first time on my lappy in normal use. By disable the i8k fan control, Bitcom function normally.

Inspiron 9400
"Dell Inspiron/Latidue/Precision fan control V3.0 beta 5 - (c) 2001-2006 by C. Diefer"
http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/

I can only read CPU temp, speed and load... no fans, GPU temp or anything
