They are selling the 8215 here in Thailand, with 2GHz Core 2 Duo and BluRay. Around $3k.
Neat: The blu ray drive is also a DVD/CD burner, so basically a drive that can do everything.
Not neat: I think it's solely responsible for about $300 or so of the price. And without blu ray movies to buy, what's the point. Especially if HD DVD ends up winning the standards wars. So... for now, I would rather not have one.
I read some test that had the Core 2 Duo beat the Core Duo at the same clock speed by 7%. Most of that is probably due to the 4M L2 cache (vs 2M on the Core Duo). Bottom line is that this is not worth upgrading to unless you need 64 bit. With 64 bit windows and 8G RAM - OK. But that's not going to happen until next year.
I think the Core Duo will be competitive with the Core 2 Due for while. Consider that the Core 2 Duo is only just over 6 months newer than the Core Duo. It's not nearly as big of a jump as from Pentium-M to Core Duo.
