"Crosshatching" or diagonal banding on 3 different M1710's?? Anyone else have this?

Well I just got my third M1710 from dell today, and all 3 i've received have had a diagonal banding or crosshatching.

it looks like this: (this was done in photoshop, its NOT a photo)

Of the 3 laptops, 2 had samsung screens, 1 had an LG screen. The samsungs actually go from right to left banding, the LG goes left to right banding like in the picture. The banding also "rolls" if you move your head around, it's not actually something on the screen, it looks like some sort of coating. It's not very easy to see but once you see it, it'll bug you forever. It's very faint but definitely there.

Anyone have ANY IDEA how to get rid of this, its annoying the shit out of me. I don't want to keep sending it back to dell and waiting 2 weeks at a time for something that potentially won't get fixed.. how can 3 laptops all have the same problem... I'm thinking about asking for my money back and just getting an alienware or other brand.

My girlfriend also got an Inspiron 9400 with the 1440x900 screen but hers was perfect, no hatching at all.

Anyone else experiencing this? I've read some people describe similar issues on the forum, i can't be the only one!

Maybe I am blind, but I've stared at that pic for about a minute and can't see any imperfections.

blind people version just kidding heh. I made the lines MUCH darker but they aren't anywhere near as extreme as this in real life.

Smallies, I think all the WUXGA screens have that crosshatching pattern. I think it's a side effect of Dell's Truelife coating for these newer screens. I've had them in all 3 of my M1710's and so have several other people.

That's what I found out from guys in this forum. I think that it will be great for you as long as you have a screen with minimal light leakage & no dead pixels...

I must say I don't have that on neither my M90 or my 700m (TrueLife). That's odd indeed and I noticed right away.

mmm there's definitely something going on. I think what has been said is right though, it is occurring on all screens, just some to a lesser extent. I notice that on the samsung's the banding isn't as pronounced... but the samsung screens shimmer and thats even worse.

I wonder if other brands have this issue as well, it's annoying as hell once you spot it...

Just so you are clear..........

When I read your post, I went upstairs to my M1710 and looked at the screen. Then I changed the screen from just the desktop to web browser to view under different pictures and colors.

I looked close... then closer

I do not have this banding..... I see it clearly in your first pict just in case you think I'm blind...

I've got it on my E1705 but the lines are closer together and i think they are a little "steeper". They are most noticeable on pure white areas when viewing the screen from below.

My current LG V1 panel has that pattern to a degree. It *does* have something to do with the coating process that's used for TrueLife, as it disappears or re-appears as I shift my viewing angel up and down.

The Samsung screen my e1705 orginally shipped with didn't have this pattern, but it did have sparkles (lots of it), and had a pattern similar, except it went completely left to right, not angled.

From what I've heard, most of the WUXGA screens (the otherwise good ones) have this pattern to some degree. Unfortunately.

mine as well shifts when you tilt the angle of the screen, so its definitely the coating. And the samsung ones go right to left whereas the LG's going left to right

ZEEEE-ROE banding on my 1710. I have the SEC3155 screen. (Samsung I think.)
