Dell E1505 (Core Solo T1350 (2MB/1.86GHz/533MHz)) upgradeable?

Is it possible to upgrade the CPU in this laptop? If so, what are my options?

Thanks

as long as it's not soldered in you should be able to upgrade it. I'm pretty sure the e1505's are sockets, so your options would be either a faster core solo cpu if there is one, a core duo cpu or possibley a merom when they are realeased.

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on upgrading it any time soon, but I wanted to know for future reference. I've read great reviews on the Core Duo's so I was hoping that I could upgrade in the future.

Does Dell usually solder CPU's in their laptops? Does anyone else know if they do on the E1505's? Thanks

The E1505 CPU is socketed - so you can upgrade to a Core Duo if you want, or a Core2 Duo if you wait until they're available.

Thanks for the quick response. What else can actually be upgraded?

RAM
Harddrive
CPU
CD/DVD (cdrw/dvd combo) ??
Video card (geforce go 7300) ??

Also, if I upgraded to a Core Duo processor, would I need to buy different ram than I have atm? Right now it's 533Mhz, 1.00 GB.

I appreciate the help guys.

That's fast RAM!

You can upgrade everything you listed except the video card.

Is the video card (X1400) an actual card or on the mobo? I noticed a local shop used to sell notebook GPU modules, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to put one into my 6400 or not?

I think the X1400 is on the mobo. I read somewhere else that you can't upgrade the X1400 to anything better. I wasn't sure about the Geforce Go 7300. I'm glad I went ahead and chose the best card available to me!

Well, the 7300 is worse than the X1400 anyhow, so no need to worry about that one. That's the main reason people are saying you can't upgrade to anything better; nothing better is available yet. Should Dell ever offer another GPU option in the E1505, though, then you'll be able to upgrade. Though many of us doubt another GPU will be offered, unfortunately. But the X1400 performs pretty well in its own right.

Well that's disappointing to hear. I read somewhere that the 7300 was the better card, plus the fact that it was ~$30 more than the X1400, so I chose that when I ordered. Wish I had known the X1400 was better!

How much better is it by the way?

The 7300 is about equivalent to the ATI X1300 in performance. Dell would have had to offered the 7400 to compete with the X1400. Noone knows why on earth Dell is charging more money for an inferior card. If anything, the 7300 should be priced at about $30 less than the X1400, not more than. Not sure how far behind in the benchmarks the 7300 is from the X1400, but enough that it's not worth that extra cost.
