Toshiba a105-s4094

Hi everyone. I'm about to buy this laptop at BestBuy ($1099). I have a toshiba a75-s229, and though I have had some issues with it (overheating, no sound sometimes) I still like toshiba (besides is the only one with worldwide warranty, and I'm from Argentina). I think a core duo processor will not overheat as my actual PIV, is that correct? Are there any issues already reported on this laptop? Do you recommend some other laptop at this price range? Any suggestion on the matter will be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Jose.

I would sincerely suggest that you stay away from Toshibas;

I have worked on a number of toshibas for myself, my relatives, my housemates, and my friends. And all of them had major hardware failures within 15-18 months of first buying them. And having owned notebooks from virtually all of the major OEM's, in my experience, Toshiba's build quality is simply third rate, and not really worth considering, for someone serious about the reliability of his/her machine.

Hola Vecino (estoy en Chile). There have been no issues with that laptop until now, at least none that I've seen in the Toshiba section. You are correct in that the CoreDuo is not supposed to heat up as much as the P4 that you have now and so the laptop should stay cooler. Since you're buying inthe US, I suggest you take a look on Toshiba's website since they are having a 25% off sale on customizable models. You might be able to build a better config for the same price or less. I'd also say to take a look at the Tecra A8. The tecra's are generally more solid than the satellites and this one looks like a pretty good deal.

I have also owned several toshiba laptops (I'm on my 4th right now) as have several of my friends and all of them (except one) have been flawless. Granted most of mine have all been tecras, but even an old 166Mhz P1 that I bought refurbished back in the 90's is still going strong (I sold it to a friend a couple of years ago and the last time I saw him around Christmas he was still useing it for word processing).

Thank you so much for the advice (it's a little weird we are writing in english!). I will check out toshiba's website right now. Last question: have you read any positive comments on this laptop?

Thanks again.
Jose.

All I've seen is people looking to get it, asking some questions & then never coming back. I haven't seen much about it wither way in the Toshiba section, which I guess means that either they ended up buying something else, or haven't needed any help & everything's going great.
