My m5750 Benchmarks

Thread Starter
well, I got my m5750 on wed. and I thought I would post the 3dMark 05 Scores that Alienware got when they tested my system. The PC Information from Alienwre is already on the desktop when you first start it up. Also, 3dMark 05 is located in the local drive in the 3dmark 05 folder.

Here it is:

Test Date: 08/09/2006 09:45 AM

III. Burn-In/Benchmarks

Doom 3

Doom 3: 66.6 fps

3DMark 2005

Game Tests
3DMark Score: 5,316.00 3DMarks

GT1 - Return To Proxycon: 22.63 FPS

GT2 - Firefly Forest: 16.24 FPS

GT3 - Canyon Flight: 26.17 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU Score: 4,870.00 CPUMarks

CPU Test 1: 2.57 FPS

CPU Test 2: 4.11 FPS

The test score when I ran the test again on all tests with default settings was 5297.

If anyone wants to explain the numbers to me and their significance, I would appreciate it. Cause I don't know anything about benchmarking and stuff like that.

Any question regarding the m5750 is also welcome here.

PLEASE NOTE: I am assuming that the 3dMark 05 that Alienware ran was the version without the 1.2.0 patch because the version that came on my computer doesn't have the patch. I will post my 3dMark 05 score with the patch when I'm done downloading it.

Nice!

2 questions..
how long is your batter life?
Can you do 3d mark 06?
The marks look good to me but I don't know a ton about benchmarking. I wonder how much they would improve with a bump in RAM.... I ordered an identical system (mine has the 7200 rpm HD but the lower res screen) and was planning on purchasing RAM from newegg as soon as it arrived. I couldn't justify paying the $350 that Alienware wanted for the RAM upgrade.

It'll be interesting to see how everybody's compares once people start recieivng their machines
post #6 of 29
You would only see about 100-150 improvement in 3dmark from upgrading the ram. Also with the lower res screen you should get slightly better score.
superkdog is right, you won't see a dramatic improvement in benchmarks due to memory, but games can appear much smoother with additional memory rather than using the slow pagefile. Games like BF2 really show a difference between 1 and 2 G of memory. The aftermarket is the way to go, don't know why AW's memory prices are so high.

As for the screen, games will play better at lower resolutions, but for the benchmark program it runs at it's preset resolution if you use the standard test on default settings, so the screen won't affect the score.

5300 is about where my 3.2p4/6800 Ultra OC desktop comes in...

well, I ran 3dMark 05 (with the patch I was missing) and I got 5304. Also, the memory probably does effect the score I think, but probably only a little like you guys said. I'm planning to upgrade the RAM by buying it from memory ten or new egg when I get enough money. The prices on Alienware are way too much.

I'll download 3dMark 06 right now and run it. I'll post the score when I'm done. And the battery life is about 1.5 hours. That's why I got an additional battery.

perhaps the score may reach about 6000 in 05 with a 2.0GHz proc + 1/2GIG of RAM? It probably almost definately would with a lower res screen. I would almost definatley buy the m5750 if they offered it in the UK, but they dont for some reason .
Now if they only offered the 9700gs in it, that would be great.

Once again, to clarify the effect of screen res on 3DMark benchmarks...the standard benchmark (free version) runs at a set resolution, and there shouldn't be much difference between systems with 1920x1200 or 1440x900 display resolution. And, in my experience, going from 512MB to 2GB of RAM did not make much difference. The CPU and GPU will have the biggest impact by far.

Of course, in real life gaming applications - the lower resolution display will be less taxing on the Video Card and one can expect to run with more graphic tweaks turned up at native resolution.

is something wrong with mine?

i only got 3DMark05 Score: 5,333.00 w/ the freeware

06 i get terrible benches w/ freeware

ill try the full version when i got back to my apt this weekend

I've got a 2.0 Ghz Duo w/ 2 Gb of ram

UPDATE:
My 3D Mark 06 score is 2564. And it's all on defaults, cause you can't change it to anthing else, as far as I know anyways. Remember, I dont know much about benchmarking. Sorry for being late on this too. I was in Boston visiting some family, and they had Netzero . So I just gave up on the internet for a few days.

Also, I compared to other computers with approx. the same CPU as my computer, and I came up to be 3rd on the list for highest mark. Still nothing compared to the scores not in my CPU Range though . I was beat out by an Nvidia GeForce 6800 BTW.

NOTE:
I'm gonna update this post in about 20 mins or less when I run 3D Mark 06 again except this time making my computer keep the Aspect Ratio on the screen instead of scaling the screen to full size VIA ATI Catalyst Control Center. I'm not sure if it's gonna make a difference at all. But hey, it's worth a try!

EDIT:
My 3D Mark 06 Score with a scaled screen and keeping the aspect ratio is 2571. W00T!!! a 7 point increase!!!! OH YEAH!!! ok, done with the sarcasm. I looked more carefully at the other computers from before that I compared to, and I noticed, that ALL of them, had at least 1 gig of memory.....Sorta makes me wanna get my memory upgrade sooner. But money doesn't come with may zeros attached to the end for me, and being only 15 does not help in any way whatsoever. I think that having more memory could actually make a noticable difference. Hopefully.

Ok, that's it for me.

3D MARK 05: 5,316
3D MARK 06: 2,571

Anyone having issues with their m5750 just randomly rebooting on battery? I've talked to AW support and got another battery out of it but curious to see if any else with a 5750 had some simliar issues. I've been having "weird" power issues since I got it but nothing serious enough to warrant a return (it works flawlessly on AC but only has some issues with ATI's Powerplay and just running on a battery).

i actually havent used the battery much yet... but i need to soon to record the time for my review im writing...

and as for the 3dmark06 scores, i figured it would be that low...which i guess bothers me about the CPU ... @ 2.0 Ghz it should be much higher... the old Pentium centrino mobile CPUs get much better benches...

It seems faster than my 2.0ghz Dothan = \ but then again I didn't run any benchies on the 700m, I'm just basing it on responsive in games, startup, and in XP which are totally superficial haha Anyway, I'm thinking about getting one of the T7400 Merom's when they come down in price or if I can find a place that has them in stock...only place I found one is ebay and I dont trust ebay to buy computer parts especially if it says "BRAND NEW" but I can can traces of AS5/"gunk" on the top of the core...They initial benchmarks on the Merom's look good from what I've seen but who knows with all the "under the table" deals in corporate america today....

tripz1196 - Well, I have 2 m5750 batteries. One that came with it, and the additional one that I purchased with my order. And I've used both batteries until they died at least twice, once for each on my way to Boston, and once for each on the way back to NY. I have absolutely no problems with the batteries, and I've played around with the Power Play options a few times. So I guess you might be the only one with the problem. But I'm sure AW customer support can help you if anything else goes wrong. They were great when I asked for a refund for my Respawn, since it came to me loose in the case, thus giving it a lot of scratches and is therefore unusable . But it was painless talking to CS. BESIDES one thing....the person I was talking to said he had a problem with processing something on his computer and said "Umm...please hold on a second sir, it seems that my computer isn't working...my computer's really slow...sorry about that sir...hehe" Sorta strange since they are a computer manufacturer of high perfomance gaming pc's and all. But still got it all done in a minute or two after putting me on hold and making me listen to some crappy music

Dukefrukem - I'm sure that mine and yours and everyone elses computer would get better scores if we all got new merom processors. But the m5750 still does great and all games, as far as I'm concerned

I wonder if they buy ibm computers for there CS

Most likely they are Dells. I highly doubt a call center use IBMs especially if they outsource their Customer Care. Speaking of which, I rarely see IBM desktops nowadays; their POS systems are very popular though. I think I knew one dude who was a CS major that had one in the dorms when I lived in one like 4 years ago but the only reason he said he kept it was because he had no other choice and it does everything he needs it to do.

Either way Dell has a pretty big share of government, educational, and corporate accounts. Apple is also having a big increase on campus sales due to their changeover to Intel processors. I think this year alone I saw more Macbooks/Macbook Pro's than the past 4 years of my college career.

They sent me a new one for free At first they said I could get a refund but I wanted the Respawn. Eventually they sent a new one out. Don't know how but they did it. I was reading something about the Merom's having a higher TDP. That can't be good in heat management but apparently it is quicker than the Yonah and gets processes done quicker? Don't know the exact complications that would cause if some of us decided to upgrade our procs but I don't think a little bit of extra heat wouldn't cause any problems especially since the Core architecture is better in heat management than the past couple processors based on the aging NetBurst design...Prescott was a disaster in my opinion... (I still love my 2.4C Northwood though even though my parents use it now )

the CS guy I talked to said that they only offer refunds "now." So I guess they used to send new ones out if someone really wanted it, even though I would think they need the computer to make a new one, or maybe they keep really in-depth records.

I hope that heat won't be an issue of upcoming processors, cause that would suck. I don't want to click that "fan" button on my laptop just so it won't overheat, cause that makes the CPU slower, making the point of getting a new CPU pointless. I'll just hope that won't happen. I like my m5750 the way it is right now though besides the small amount of RAM, need to upgrade that ASAP.
