Why do you have to choose at all? I think i've owned every console since the NES, and I still frag with the best of em on the PC. Owning every console FTW.

Well i've always been a console gamer but now that my 80 GB HDD is filled up and that my POS 5600 XT 128 mb is crapping out, i'm focusing more on consoles. Don't get me wrong, i love PC Gaming. Hell i'm building a new PC soon to play Medieval Total War 2, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Neverwinter Nights 2, and i may start playing WOW.

Wow, I think I remember seeing this thread last year. But heck, since this new section needs the traffic anyway it can stay.

Contrary to what you may have heard you dont' need the most expensive gear to get a good gaming experience out of your PC. The most expensive gear really only serves purpose for those that are either trying to compensate for an anatomical shortcoming, or someone that is allergic to money. If you take the time to research stuff you can come up with a decent gaming PC and not have to get a 2nd mortgage on your house.

That's called e-p3nis, Mr. Evil, e-penis.

The reason to get the most expensive gear or overcook...um....or overclock it is to get the best o' the best performance or brag to your online buddies of the 1337 benchmark score your computer just got.

Of course, not everybody needs or wants the best of the best performance. Some get it because they simply want it and just want the best they can get.

The 1337 snobs are the ones who ruin the party for everyone as they bash people who don't build their computers based on their needs.

I've seen many instances where a Joe_snob_1337 at the uber1337forums would tell someone that in order to get 1337 performance the minimum that someone would need is an overclocked water cooled quad core CPU with RAID 0 @ 15K RPM, 16GB of overclocked DDR3 RAM, overclocked quad SLI, 3000Mhz FSB mobo with OC capabilities and a Gigawatt PSU even though the OP was just asking about getting a computer to run MS Office and browse the net.

I've gone with XBOX 360 over a new 3500 dollar gaming PC...I bought a 32 HD LCD to use primarily as a gaming monitor, and I couldn't be happier. I can't justify the heavy money for PC gaming at this point...I'm taking a break.

Same here. I got the ps3 and am quite suprised with game quality. I've been pc gaming for years now and just finally gave up on the cost. It's also nice being able to load a game and not having to tweak dozens of settings just to get it to run with optimum performance and quality. I do have a handicap with shooters due to my mouse and keyboard days on a pc. I find it tough getting use to controller with these games.

Funny my boss and me just had this conversation yesterday. He asked me why I stopped play BF2, CS:S, etc. I broke it down this way. I could spend 2500+ on a new laptop that well play games but no where near max anything. Or I could just keep playing games on my PS3 that look better then any PC I have ever owned and are just as fun if not better. If I want to play and PC FPS I will use his computer or Nyako's. Then I asked him for a 2500 dollar bonus.
