connecting up an ipod

Thread Starter
hey everyone, ive just come here even though this is the notebook forum, for some advice since everyone is so helpful

im currently thinking of switching from pc gaming to console gaming forever. meaning, instead of getting a new gaming pc, ill get myself a cheaper notebook ( i love them.. havnt ever had one though *shock* *horror* ) a new lcd tv ( currently got a 14" crt tv in my room... dont laugh, im only 13 ) and either a 360, or a new stereo system ( this is where the question comes in )

at the moment, i generally dont buy cd's, and either download them from the itunes music store or import them from limewire. this is fine for me at the monent, as i either use itunes if im on my pc ( generally what i do if im at home.. ) or my ipod when im nto on my pc. Now, if i go with console gaming, i cant use my notebook for music, as i dont want them both plugged in at the same time ( dont even try to persuade me here.. ).

First of all, i guess there is no way possible to connect it to the tv for music, right ?

secondly ( correct word ? ) if that doesnt work, im going to want something to play it on. so ill get a new stereo, but this is where the question comes in, will i bebale to connect my ipod to it to play songs ? or will i have to buy a apple one for the ipod ?

thanks.

hmm.. while im asking, would it be possible to connect a macbook to an lcd tv ?

You can get one of those FM broadcaster things to play it on any radio. You just find a frequency that isn't used in your area for a radio station and the iPod'll broadcast to it. They're pretty cheap and I have the iCar one, but San Antonio being the large city it is, it's nearly impossible to find anywhere on the FM RF spectrum that doesn't have a station on it or too close to it...

as far as hooking a notebook up to an LCD TV, that should be easy enough, assuming it has some sort of video out on it. I'm not an apple guy, so I don't know if it does or not though, but I know this 1705 can connect via DVI and VGA to two of my TV's (LCD and CRT). I believe there's also USB cards you can buy that'll output the video via the old school composite video (RCA plug), but that's gonna be the worst possible quality.

there is a adapter which goes from a headphone plug to 2 rca plus (red & white) most stereos have inputs for these as well as a few tv's so u chould hook ur laptop up to that, that's the Audio portion, and the Video portion, is u can get a dvi to hdmi plug for ur macbook, or alotta lcd's have dvi ports on them or analog, (i suggest dvi) as dvi is alot clearer, and u might notic a s-video output too on some notebooks, but that sucks, the picture is not clear the resolution is horrible, best bet, find a lcd with a dvi port, it's becoming a standard now anyways, then u would still have openings for other input devices using rca and hd cables, (R,G,B)
