i'm assuming you're referring to windows explorer. check out xplorer2. gives you an option of dual panes as well as the file tree and you can see/play multimedia w/i xplorer.

I believe he's referring to the process explorer.exe, without which Windows cannot run correctly.

The reason it is probably running at 100% is either:

1. You have been infected with some kind of virus.

2. You have installed some really badly written program that is just hammering explorer.exe

3. You have some spyware/malware installed that is trying to do something against the computer and is also probably written very badly.

Solutions:

1. Run an antivirus program. Some decent, free ones are: GriSoft AVG, Avira AntiVir.

2. Just uninstall the program. If you have crappy little programs like those for getting weather information, etc, get rid of those. 99% of the time, they are horribly written and are responsible for a large number of problems.

3. Install and run Spybot, Lavasoft Ad-aware and Hijack This. See if you can find any spyware/malware. Obviously, remove it if you can.

kill explorer.exe use task manager to start whatever progs you need...shell mode FTW!

**This is mostly meant as a joke. Probably need to do as stated above or start over from scratch with a clean OS install.
