Dell finally caved on a replacement...

I have to admit, I am an exceptionally patient person. So patient, in fact, that my i9300 has had:

2 Motherboard replacements
1 Defective Battery
1 LCD panel replacement
Back plastics/lid plastics replaced (bad hinges so they replaced everything)
1 Hard Drive (just died this morning, bios doesnt even 'see' the hard drive there...)

After chatting on the phone with a very nice hardware support tech, she created a dispatch for a hard drive for me... I waited for like 10 minutes for her to come back on, in which time I thought about all the problems I have been having just this month alone. When she came back, I allowed her to finish her little ditty (case number, dispatch number... call us if there are any more issues... etc.) I then asked her if I could make a comment.

I stated that I have been very patient with the system at hand, and have allowed them to continue throwing parts at it all this time. I noted, however, that I drive a semi truck for a living, and getting home for all these dispatches has proved to be a challenge on my behalf. I then stated that 95% of my business is done on my notebook, and downtime for me is costly out here. I asked about my options, and she asked what I would like. I told her, I have no idea really, as this is my first experience with a machine that has failed me so many times...

She put me on hold, and when she came back (about 10 minutes later) she said that her supervisor wants her to dispatch me a replacement system. I agreed to this, and was told to expect more information on the 'replacement' specs in the next week or so. I have decided (looking at my current specs) that it will most definately be an improvement over my current configuration!

I will keep ya'll posted as to what they are replacing my old notebook with in the coming days. Big for Dell's warranty department, I think that they may have made me a customer for life!

good to hear, sounds like your last system was sure a somewhat messed up, due to so many replacements, I also am currently tally-ing up my parts that are failing, since I do understand that at some point Dell becomes more willing to replace your system. Anyway, enjoy your new system!!!

my system hasnt had as many problems as yours but ive had a few,
memory acting up
3 lcd replacements
keyboard replacement

Good luck on your replacement!

Also i'm curious as to what type of warrenty you have, is it the regular 1yr warrenty?

i'm lucky that my parts haven't failed, cause i'm out of warranty

I bet the replacement is going to be a 1705. Because ur video card is a x300, otherwise u might just get a M1710 like me!!!

Thanks. Right now I have the 3 year Next Business Day Onsite + Complete Care warranty. Definately think it was worth it now! I didn't even suggest that I wanted a system replacement, they just kinda offered it to me. Like I said, BIG to Dell right now. I figure even if I get a 1705 its a HUGE improvement over what I have now. We shall see what Dell sends me to keep me a happy customer!

If you're away from home and going to be in one place long enough to get a tech. You can see if Dell will just send a tech to your current location. I do lots of repairs for Farmer's Insurance claims adjusters during hail season in their hotel rooms since they don't live in Amarillo. Just a suggestion since you did mention getting home to meet the tech is difficult (frankly I don't blame you). However I would say to other members that your case is a rare one. Dell normally won't issue a replacement if you've had 5 different problems rise. However, they do start leaning towards the replacement system if they've had to send out parts 3 or 4 times for the same problem. However, in your case Dell was willing to work with you since your profession keeps you away from home so often. I have the same problem sometimes when I need my phones checked or my cable.

Hope you enjoy your new Laptop.

I was very patient also. My XPS Gen 1 has had these replacements:

Mobo replaced 2 times
All Fans replaced 3 times
Heatsink replaced 2 times
Processor replaced 1 time
Dvd drive replaced 1 time
Memory replaced 1 time

They just kept thinking that if they replaced the same parts over and over again, it would magically be fixed. ( I had problems with overheating and my laptop gave me strange errors and lost the system date and time after every restart)

Those errors came up right after the bios loads so i dunno how they could send the laptop back to me after seeing the error pop up all of the time..

Oh well.. replacement is on its way but I don't know what it is yet.

Im in the same boat, XPS Gen 2 with intermittant video issues, two ac adapters, dvd/rw and starting to hit 90c lately. I explained that im on the road M-F with this lappy, and it really puts me out when its down.

They gave me the option of new lcd/heatsink/fans or replacement, im taking the replacement and will report in on what happens.

4 year Complete Care FTW

Trust me, I have tried this with them several times now... they dont like to do it at all (they have yet to oblige me, as a matter of fact...) I have been told time and time again by TS that they can only dispatch to a stationary address, and I am WAY to poor to pick up the tab on a hotel room right now! On top of that, I never know just when my downtime will be. Like yesterday, I spent all day in Atlanta, GA waiting for a load out of there... Thats a rare occasion though, as I am almost always moving, and when I am not moving I am sleeping. Its a rough life, but it sure pays the bills!

I think when I called in yesterday morning, the TS girl could hear the disgust in my voice and played a bit on that. She also noted that my last 3 dispatches have all been from THIS month! The problems all cropping up together like that probably had some pull on me getting this thing replaced. Either way, I hope that everything works out (only time will tell...)

Glad to read this thread

I'm very tired to only read post of people unhappy with the Dell service

I've the "3 year Next Business Day Onsite + Complete Care" too, and i'm very happy with the Dell service. The last week my screen was broken, and the day after my call a technician went to my home to put a new one on the 9300

So i'm happy to see that i'm not the only one that have a good feeling with Dell service

Now they have another customer for life too

Peace and beers

Hi people, I am in the same boat. Dell keeps on thinkng replacing my "Parts." What is funny is that my lappie has only few minor "overheating" problems until I send it to the depot. After I got it back, a llot of problems start occuring. Here is what they have replaced:

2 X screen
2 X Both system fans
2 X heatsink
1 X video card

Now they recommend me to send my lappie to the depot again!! Only this time, they fully acknowledge my video card have problems and they are going to check my main board and cpu. I hope I get a replacement or something. Thanks all!!

Well, I am not an independant contractor... at least not yet. That would be the ultimate goal here. Essentially, the notebook provides me with a 24/7 GPS guidance system, and tunes for my trips. On top of that I also log all of my finances in spreadsheets on here. Every trip, I take down the load information and input it also - such as load numbers, bill of lading, paid mileage, any extra out of route miles I may run... etc...

This way, if you ask me where I was on June 28th, 2005 from 4PM till 9PM, I could tell you almost exactly where I was (please dont ask me now though... remember, my puter is still broke ) I guess its just a good mix of everything I do on a daily basis that requires the notebook to be tip-top. The 9300 has done a superb job of keeping up with me daily, and I have appreciated that. I do however regret buying it with the X300 graphics card... There arent many good games I can play without experiencing lots of lag. That and I think I only get like 300 points in 3DMark06

In my case I am contacting customer support on Monday about my laptop, in the past 2 weeks it has gone to the repair center 2 times and now its overheated and died in less than 2 days after its return from the shop,,,so they are requesting I send it back once more for repair, something I am going to fight them on, after nearly 4 hours of tech support dealings as well as 2 times at the repair facility in less than 2 weeks I am not going to go through the whole process yet again........I have 2 more years of warranty as well as complete care left on my laptop....
(UPDATE) Just got off the phone and they are sending a replacement..........

Items replaced in less than 2 weeks
2- Motherboards
1-HD
1-Heatsink

Looks pretty sweet, of course it would be easier to see the specs if you yanked out oll that software garbage
post #20 of 112
If you bought the present system online from dell it would have cost you 1400.00, So its a good trade..only thing they have shafted you with is the HD, seems online they are offering a 120Gig with the starting base price at no extra cost....They gave you more RAM and a better Dualcore Proccesor as well as a X1400 Video card....Just watch the Samsung LCD , lots of people are complaining about its quality...but all in all its a killer system....Now I just have to wait till they post my specs......
