Dell finally caved on a replacement... - Page 2

Gratz on replacement. I hope this system doesn't give you as much trouble as your last one did.
nice laptop, processor is a little bit under powered for me, but if you don't run virtual machines and heavy tasks like those it should be a wonderful system!

Question. Does my original service tag carry over to my new system?

No it does not. The new system has it's own service tag.

Thats what I figured. I had a customer care rep tell me otherwise today. I didnt know for sure whether to believe him or not (couldn't hardly understand him to begin with...) Thats why I ask here. I know there are a lucky few in here that have received replacement systems and I figured they would know! Thanks a lot RRF985!

Dell just had a rep call me and ask why I would want to upgrade to a 7900gs from the ATI X1400! His words, "Sir they have the same specifications, as they are both 256MB." Are these people really that clueless??

Gotta love Dell!
Tell his ass to look into specs. It's very sad how much shit people don't know about their f'en job.

lol...

I have been on hold with Dell for 75 minutes now (see, its that patience thing again...) The problem is that they cannot create a dispatch on my E1705 service tag yet, as they have not received my 9300 back. Soooo... the guy is working quite diligently to use my 9300 service tag, and ship the parts to be replaced in my E1705 (poor guy is sooo confused... lol)

I just got off the phone, they have already shipped the display and battery, and the 7900GS is going into a box as we speak. Looks like Monday is the big day... kinda like waiting for Christmas morning now!! Good thing I gots the weekend off!

im wondering about the same thing, my broken 9300 just totally died
being about as moble as you(without a car unfortunatly i either fly or take a train)and i want to ask them what they can do for me but im afraid cuz any more time i spend with no computer is going to have some serious setbacks ive been luckye enough to use a spare untill now now as of after this post im going to have to be creative as to how im going to use one.. does any one thing theyd grant me a replacement?
I just got off the phone with dell customer care concerning a update on my exchange, and they tell me there is no exchange listed only a dispatch for a repair return, I say What the F##$$*** and explain the repair had been canceled and a replacement dispatch had been sent...they inform me it has been in limbo due to a mix up ...so she transfers me to tech support to clear up the error, at this point I am extremely Pissed!!! and of course I get cut off , so I go to the chat section and explain the whole mess, they instantly bring up the info which clearly shows the exchange being issued and know nothing of a mix up.. and assure me the laptop will be replaced in the same time frame 5 to 7 days from the original date issued... so all is well, but damn the left hand has no idea what the right is doing at Dell it seems....Did have them put in the notes that I am a hardcore gamer so they can keep that in mind when processing my replacement, he said they would make a note of it for me....one can only hope it benefits my replacement laptops choice....

Got one more question for the E1705 owners. Will I need a 130 Watt power brick to use the 7900GS? Dell is telling me I dont, but I want to hear it from somebody with a brain.
I think you need the 130 watt brick. Don't listen to those dell reps lol, you know they don't have a clue

As for the x1400& 7900GS are the same specs I would just tell him look, you see the 7900 is a bigger number than the 1400 so it MUST be better! ...I mean how could he argue, not like the guy has a clue since he seems to think one is as good as the other lol...Man these reps are just scary, aren't they?

..Makes me wonder how many people that don't knwo much about computers have been fed bad information
post #36 of 112
Ahem the 7900GS requires no extra power supply lke the 130watt model the 90watt one should suffice.

No need for the 130watt power brick for the E1705 Nvidia go 7900gs single-pipe.
well thne I stand corrected. I thought the dualpipe used the 130. was unaware there was a 40 watt power difference requirement between those 2 configs (GTX/GS dual pipe)
To OC higher (to reach 9k ish in 3d 05) you need the brick. For 8k on 3d05, you don't need it.

Ok, I had wondered. Thanks for all the good info. I am sure I probably could have figured it out on my own, but my last couple of posts I made while driving down the road in the semi truck! Kinda hard to research, let alone make a coherent post, while cruising! I just got home a little while ago, and am currently in the process of reinstalling Windows. Its kinda funny, my wife was like "This computer is slower than your old one! You should tell them this one sucks!" lol... I guess I will have to show her what a clean reinstall can accomplish. I can tell already it is WAYYYY peppier than my old 1.6 P-M, even with the bloatware! I am very impressed with Dell right now. I have also made sure they KNOW I am satisfied. Come next Monday, I will (hopefully) be EXTREMELY satisfied!

Guess its time to update the old sig huh?
