You still need to tell us what you said to make Dell sweeten the pot when they upgraded your LCD , Video card and Battery!!!! Doesn't happen that often......

I have thought about it constantly since I did it... but ya know something? Everytime something gets posted up here, it gets gratuitously abused. I hate to see things like that happen... Do your research people, and use your heads. I found a great point to bring up to customer care about my replacement, and in the end, they found themselves agreeing with me to a much greater extent then I had ever imagined or wished for. All I was shooting for was an updated video card, and came out with a whole slew of goodies... (was even offered an additional $250 credit towards my original bill, which I refused because they had already given me more than I could have asked for! Honestly!) If you go into a conversation with them, know EXACTLY what you want, and do enough research to back up your claims. DO NOT however LIE about something to score extras... that is NOT cool. I scored my upgrades legitamately (even blew 594 of my Sprint accounts peak minutes on hold... grr... lol) In the end, they felt better knowing they had pleased a customer, and I felt good knowing that I didn't have to cheat my way into bonus goodies.

Great response, I to have always found that being truthfull is always a plus, glad you got what you were looking for on your upgrades...Enjoy...

Hi all, great news!! Dell finally cave a replacement on me too. I talked to them from the beginning of August until now. Same thing happened to me as it did to Krayziepop, I did not request a replacement, but was shooting for a upgraded video card. I have had the following replaced before Dell cave on a exchange/replacement:

2 X to Depot
1 X motherboard
2 X System heatsinks
2 X LCD
1 X Vidoe card
3 X System and Video card fans
1 X Hard drive

On Friday, after getting my HDD replaced, I called Dell and told them my video card is still overheating (hitting 80C on idel, geforce 7800 rev01). At first, the Dell rep wanted to replace my video card fans and HDD, but I explained to him about the parts that has been replaced in my laptop. After the rep looking through my ENTIRE history, he took a shot in trying to get my entire system replaced/exchanged, and it worked.

I was presistend in addressing this problem with and, most importantly, I WAS HONEST about my problem. Now I am waiting for my replacement. Dell technicans are great, but they are presistant in order weed out those who are trying to con them. Plus for Dell!!

Does anyone have any experience about replacement/exchange? The Dell rep told me I have to wait for 15 days or less to see what the Depot can give. He also said the system should be similar spec or an upgrade. I am concern about getting the geforce 7800, is there any ways to request what I want in my lappy? Or pay some amount for it? Please let me know, so I kow what to expect ahead of time. One more thing, would I be able to request a "refurbished" M90 that is the same price as mine? Just a thought that corssed my mind. Thanks all in advance!!!!

My exchange was set up on the 19th and no word yet on the replacement, should no something Monday or Tuesday, and no you can't make any requests until after you get your replacement system, welcome to the world of the long wait ...you might be one of the lucky few who See's some movement quickly, but like most of us its going to be at least 6 to 10 Business days before anything is known.....But congrats on your replacement , I hope it works out for you....and keep us posted on your progress..

Just remember, as a general rule, Dell does not allow ANY requests for upgrading parts. Normally you get what they send you, and live with it. Now if your old machine has a WUXGA screen and they send you one with a WXGA+, you will have an arguing point. Same with having say a 9 cell in the old system and they send you a 6 cell. According to Dell, your replacement should be the exact same, or BETTER than what you had. If they downgrade you anywhere you will have a leg to stand on. Otherwise, if they send you a total upgrade (everything better all around), then its hit and miss as to the 'bonus' goodies they will bend for. I would say in 99.9% of all cases, unless you have a REALLY good point for argument, they will just tell you that they have already given you more than you had originally. I managed to find a very valid point for my upgrades, and when I finally was able to get them to see it my way, they hooked me up majorly. If you get all upgrades, its really hard to justify any upgrades... sometimes Dell will let them slip through though... YMMV.

Now, even though nobody has challenged my claims, here is my orders right off the Dell site. I will be hooked up Monday, and man I can't wait!!

I am confused? Correct me if I am wrong on this, I can't make any request unitl I have recieve my actual system, or until they have come up with the spec of my new system? I am really hoping they would let me get a m90 from the outlet. Thanks!!!

Nope, wont happen. You will get exactly the same specs tit for tat. They only upgrade where they have to. This is why some people wait for their replacements longer than others. They monitor the Dell Depot for an exact match for your system, for up to 15 days after they setup your exchange. If, in that time they recieve a system back that is IDENTICAL (read same model, same parts, etc.) then that will be the system they send you. They will wait to ship until they get the closest match to what you already have. So as far as getting a much better system, its all up to luck at that point. At the 15 day point if they haven't found an exact match then they will ship you the closest match they can (which may be a major upgrade...)

Basically what I am saying is that you have little to no control over your replacement. If you are exchanging an E1705 right now, you will get exactly that in return. If you are sending back a 9300 or older, then its up to what your ORIGINAL configuration was to determine what model they send you to replace it. If you have a top notch 9300 with 6800 video card and a 2.16 CPU, then you may expect an M1710. If you have a base model, lowest spec'd 9300, you will get a base model, low spec'd E1705. As I said in my last post however, YMMV.

Interesting Krayziepop, what point were you making that they upgraded you? I would like to have some ideas just in case if they made a mistake or something. I am hoping they will give me some extras to compensate my time and energy wasted in trying to get this problem fixed, I made 12 phone calls. I am going to use that as part of my leverage. I hope they are willing to let to pick a m90 from outlet, but I doubted it though. Thanks all!!!

Here are my spec if anyone would like to know

WUXGA
1gb (667mhz) ram
1.87 (T2400)
60gb HDD @ 5400rpm
Geforce 7800 go

I was checking the outlet for couple of days now, it seems that not a lot of E1705 equipped with geforce 7900 GS was ever returned. I am going to make sure Dell matches my system price tag of $1850 (when I purchased back in Febuary), and hope they can give me other goodies. Recieving a refurbished unit means significant price drop. Those Dell people

What are the system specs of the machine they are replacing, Communist? Just curious, and maybe if you post your specs we can give you a little more insight on what your replacement may be. As I had said in my previous posts, I won't give away my little 'secret' on a public forum. There has been way to much abuse of this in the past, and I would hate to see Dell shut down such a great replacement program because everybody and their brother tried to cheat the system.

Oh yeah. I would not be surprised at all if you get the EXACT same system. As I was saying it will be wholly dependant on what they have in the depot right now, and into the next week or so. If, by the end of the 15 day period, they haven't found an exact match, you will get a very 'similar' machine. I certainly would not be expecting an M90, as up until just recently, they have been difficult to find in the outlet. Another thing to consider is that not all systems make it to the Depot website. Sometimes they pull a new return to be used as a replacement before the Depot has time to list it. So, I would just sit tight and wait for the system to post to your account on the Dell site. If you have the Next Business Day warranty, they will ship the system to you Next Day Air. Good luck to you, and let us know how it works out!
Yep you will probably get a E1705 WUXGA+ as well as a 7900GS, but there is also a good chance they may hook you up with a 1710 with your current specs being so good......Man it sucks not knowing.....

Thanks for all the help people. I will just have to sit tight and wait, but I will certainly make sure they match my final system price of $1850 and whatever gold service member thing will get me. That $1850 was after a near $1000 discount when I got it. Thanks again!!

Maybe I shouldn't be celebrating just yet... this system has locked up on me 4 times now just in the last two days of use. No error messages, just freezes up on me to where I have to hold the power button down to shut it off. Odd... I have ran the Dell diagnostics tool (useless if you ask me) and it comes up with a pass in every category. I ran memtest for quite a while (windows version) and it had no issue either... any thoughts guys? I have all the updated drivers for the machine and the A02 BIOS.
Might research the Dual core issues relating to your Laptop from the manufacturer, There have been issues with lockups and freezes with desktop users and Dualcores....might be the same with laptop users....My AMD Dual core on my desktop had issues that required a optimizer driver update, (Random lockups),so you might check with Intel and see if they have any fixes or updates...other than that you may have to do a complete reformat and install......
