Hi, Im having a strange problem. Yesterday, I was listening to some 24 (the series) episodes on my TV using my M5500. I was outputting to the TV only. Then I hard-shutdown it. I went to sleep. Next Morning (today), I try to boot the laptop, I see the alienware screen, then nothing. Black screen.

things I have done:

1. flash the bios
2. try a windows 98-2000-xp sp1- xp sp2, cd's to boot, No one works. They ask me to push a key to boot on the cd. I press, nothing appean after.

Help will be very appreciated.

Does it still work on the tv? If you can see the screen on the tv maybe you can use it to switch back to the monitor.

thanks for your time and your fast reply, but I got it working. Here is what I did, maybe it'll help some.

1. booting on Hiren's boot disk (google it)
2. using the ondisk tools to backup my files
3. '' '' '' to delete every partition I had
4. Rebuild my partitions, and format them to the proper file system.
5. reboot, on insert my Windows XP disk.

Might have something to do with the MBR (master boot record; some people call it different names, I've also heard it being called Master File Table but it's not the "correct" term). Windows XP has something called NTLDR which basically is the XP loader similar to GRUB and LILO in Linux systems. I had some issues getting PowerCinema on my system and found this very simple ISO file that is copied onto a "boot" CD and it automatically re-writes the MBR so XP can boot. It's a really handy tool to have either way. I'll try to find the link for you or if you can hold out till labor day I can put it up on my webserver. Don't re-format the disk yet as it can be something really simple as an MBR re-write.
