Switch Operating Systems on the Notebook

Thread Starter
Dear all,

I would like to have 2 operative systems on my notebook (one for business and another for personal use), the issue is, since this notebook is for businness purposes I don“t want to install here the other operative system.

So, I was thinking if is possible to have a different operative system on a external disk (USB, ...) and switch whenever I want or at start up (maybe with the help of some program).

Thanks and regards,
Bruno Santos.

First, make sure that your BIOS actually supports booting from a USB drive.

Windows in your pocket
Install Windows XP on a USB flash drive -- pretty much same as first one
Some problems that might occur while doing this
BartPE -- possibly one of the best utilities available today for administrators. Allows you to create a windows install that will run off a CD or a USB drive. You can really go to town with this thing.

EDIT: Apparently, an official guide to do what you want: http://www.winusb.de/index_en.html

Thanks zakaluka2.

But unfortunaly, and after going throw your links, I find out that everybody has a pretty good theory about it, but in the end it doesn't work!

See this page for example. It says:
Q: Can a USB storage device be the primary (and only) means of storage?
No. USB-based mass storage devices cannot be the primary hard disk storage solution on a regular system ...

Thanks again and regards,
