I'm going to college in a month and I need a notebook. I've been working a few weeks so I've got some money but still I'm a student so I haven't got like$2500 to spend on a notebook.
What I think is really important is the screen. It must be 17" for sure.
I'm looking at two diffent setups right now. They both have positive and negative sides.
The first one, is a Dell XPS M1710.
Intel® CoreTM Duo Processor T2500 - 2.0 GHz
1 GB DDR-RAM (2x512)
80 GB hdd (5400 RPM)
8X DVD+/-RW
17-inch UltraSharp TFT Active Matrix WUXGA
nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX met 512MB
3 year Next Business Day On Site
+ WUXGA screen
+ I can get it "cheap" (normaly it would cost arround €2500 ~ $2777)
+ Graphics card
+ 3 years warranty
- Only 80GB hdd (but it still be enough for me)
- No numeric keypad (so I'll have to buy an additional one)
- No TV tuner (so I'll have to buy an additional one)
- Still a little to expensive (€1750 ~ $1944)
The second one, is a fujitsu Xi1526 TV-edition (Promo here in Belgium)
17" LCD WXGA+ CrystalView 1440x900
INTEL 945PM+ICH7-M Chipset Motherboard
Intel Core Duo T2500E 667Mhz FSB with 2Mb Cache
1024 MB ( 2x512MB ) DDR2 533 Mhz
120 GB SATA II 5400 RPM with onboard RAID Controller for RAID 0 and 1

TV-out, Firewire, USB, Modem, Lan, Wlan, Bluetooth
2 Years Pick-up & return
Windows XP MCE SP2 MULI ( NL-FR-UK )
+ 120GB hdd
+ TV tuner with remote
+ Numeric Keypad
+ Price (€1499 ~ $1665)
+ Bleutooth (I don't know about XPS)
- WXGA+ (this is the major
- 7600GS
- 2 Years Warranty
Witch one would you recommand? Because I'm stuck and I can't make up my mind. The fujitsu looks nice. It has the whole package but on the other had, $1944 for an XPS is rather cheap.
Is the Dell WUXGA screen still suitable for office work? Or is the text becoming to small. Is RAID an advantage?
I like FAST computers, for example I hate waiting 2 seconds when I start word or excel... In the first place it's a laptop for school but it will also be used to watch television, dvds, divx's and to play some games.
