Anyway of getting better wireless signal?

I bought a Dell E1705 and got that Dell N wireless card. I also have a linksys wireless-G router down stairs but can't get a signal from my room upstairs. Now I dont have the exact measurements of how far the distance is but is there anyway of making the signal more effeciant? I dont have a password on the router's signal either.

when i first installed a router it seemed to have a very weak signal too... but it seems to have 'adapted' over time, either my card or the router, because it has gotten a lot stronger without any changes in setting.

you could make sure your card drivers are all up to date and your router firmware is upgraded. after awhile i switched to a third party firmware (i assume you also have the wrt54g) because i thought it would help with signal problems and there is in fact a signal power booster (in mw) but it didn't actually produce any noticeable improvements for me. just more configuration options. try it out anyway but be careful with guides.

make sure the antenna is screwed on tightly to the router. mine came loose at one point and the signal streght dropped almost 20%
