Question about ram and HD in macbooks

Thread Starter
hey, can i use the same ram or harddrives from PC laptops? the price of ram through apple is insane, i was wondering if i could just 2 normal 512 667mhz chips and use them in the macbook im going to get. also, is it the same for the harddrive? finally could i put 2X512 533mhz into the macbook? if i can i want to swap it out from my inspiron 9300.

thanks for your time in advance.

Yes you can. If the RAM you put in is slower than PC 5300, however, it will only run at the top speed the RAM is capable of.

Apple's RAM prices are the same as the prices from pretty much every company. Even Dell is outrageous on their RAM.

wonder if its worth the premium to go with a 7200 slighty bigger hd in my macbook?

hmmmm....

From what I read, the 7200 drives perform well, but they're extremely loud in the Macbook. I had a Dell XPS Gen 2 with a 100GB 7,200rpm. It ran pretty quiet in it while giving me the performance i wanted in gaming.

If you read some reviews on the 7.2k drives at Newegg, you'll find the ones that rattle around in there.

I added a 7200 in my PowerBook and I honestly can't tell any difference in performance going from the 5400.

yea i think ill just get a 120-160gb 5400.

not worth the price to me really. and it if runs just as fast as my 60gb 5400, which it will be faster, ill be happy.
