can i use a 6pin to 4pin firewire cable for my 500gb external HD drive. It comes with a 6pin firewire cable as standard. as i got only 4pin firewire port..i planned to use that cable and does it make any harm??

one more here. 3.5" self powered... communicating with a 6pin-4pin cable. iirc, the extra pins are used for energy supply. since they (3.5") are self powered... no need for them.

6 to 4 pin works fine for me too. I think most laptops use the 4 pin port.
