Thinkpad T60 display problem

Hello everyone, i just purchased a thinkpad T60 a few days ago... and when i started using it, i noticed that the colors on the screen were messed up. The colors on the screen aren't very solid or vibrant either. There seems to be a whitish hue on all the colors in the screen.. sort of what it looks like when someone on TV is dreaming but not that intense of course. I tried adjusting the Brightness/Contrast/Gamma but they don't seem to help very much at all. When i compare it to my desktop pc and bro's dell laptop... those monitors seems to have very rich colors.
Even when i play games... the lighting is all messed up. The floor seems to have a very thin layer of fog on it (this doesn't exist on my desktop/bro's laptop) and all the background images (walls, doors, characters) are very dark.
My laptop's specs are: 2ghz, 1022mb SD DDRII Ram, 80gb 5400rpm HD, an ATI Radeon x1300 video card (512mb) and Windows XP Professional. Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

thx for the interesting info borgus. Unfortunately school starts Sept. 5th for me and i am busy the next week or so. I don't think IBM would be able to replace the screen for me in time for school ><. I hope i can ask them to replace it anytime within the next 4 years.... since it's covered under warranty. And not just under the 30 days thing, because i need this laptop 4-5 times a week once school starts.
