How to replace CPU in 9750?

Thread Starter
I originally bought the Sager 9750 with CPU AMD +3200. I recently bought the AMD FX-60. I would like to do it myself instead. Anyone ever do the CPU upgrade out there? If so, can you share your experience? Thanks.

Ugh- good luck with that one man. I've opened up the bottom and checked out the processor heat sink, but I don't really think the processor is meant to be upgraded user-end.

When did you buy your Sager 9750? I know that you may need a BIOS update going from a Single Athlon to a dual FX. If you run into problems after installation- remember that.

Able to replace the CPU

I finally upgraded the CPU by myself. Just un-screw four screws on the heat sink, cleaned the thermal compound on the bottom of the heat sink, removed the old CPU, installed the new one, apply new thermal compound (artic silver), re-mount the heat sink and screwed in the four screws.

Windows XP abled to detect new FX CPU and updated automatically. After the system restarted, everything is perfect. I don't have to ship the unit back to Sager for upgrade and risk shipping harzard. I'm glad that I did it myself.

Congrats! That is very good to hear Vincent- this is great news for people with single core 9750's, especially with the recent drop in AMD prices; now is a great time to drop in a dual-core if you don't already have one.

4400+ $249
4600+ $255
4800+ $329
FX-60 $899 (Current TigerDirect.com)

Though I caution you- if for some reason you DO have to ship your laptop back to Sager (for repair or other upgrade); they will view this operation as a void of warranty.
