my 8600's almost at its 2nd year and it still runs better then any other system in the house.

Good thing you have warranty, I only had 1 year warranty so once this thing dies, im getting myself a nice macbook pro

Quite happy, will soon see what I get....seems another forum member with almost the exact specs as mine got the E1705 as the replacement , if only I'm that lucky......

well if i were you i would not agree with al lesser system then a latitude d620 the 8600 was a wonderful system, the best inspiron bij design (next to the xps) and the 1705 1505 just look and feel cheezy..

Not really wanting to drop down to a smaller screen, and I also am a gamer...Reason I bought the 8600 in the first place was the ability to play all the latest greatest games available at the time...Crossing my fingers that Dell will send me something with at least a X1400 card....The 8600 was a top end laptop in its day so no low end replacement will do....

Specs: Dead 8600 1.7, 128Nvidia 5650FxGo, 60Gig HD, 15.4 WSXGA+, 4xDVDR+RW, 1300 Wireless, 1Gig RAM

Replacement: Still waiting for word...

well replacing it with an latitude d820 would be an option, not sure if the quadro card is good for gaming, a bit pricy to.

if you are looking for a mor affordable model, i would choose (if i were you) the E1505 with the x1400.

The D820 should be pretty good for gaming. Those GPUs are no slouch. Just an underclocked version of the Geforce 7's if I remember correctly.

I am REALLY hoping to get a D820 or D620. I am starting a film/TV production degree next year and I am hoping I can get my parents to help me upgrade to it.

hello all

i've bought inspiron 8600 at second condition (no warranty from DELL, just from online shop), now it's been with me about 3 years, and there is no serious hardware problem. just the NEC DVD+RW optic get weak, but it still can play DVD movie athough not all type of DVD movie and burns CDs only .

oh, add more: my inspiron 8600 is always with me, although go abroad or travel across state with all condition: by car, motor cycle, train, bus, it also even drop @ 30cm high

so... its still works well and i post this message with my lovely inspiron 8600

here is my 8600's specification:
cpu: 1.5 GHz
memory: 768 MB
HD: 40 GB @ 4200 rpm
optic: NEC DVD+RW 6100A
lcd: 15.4" @ 1920x1200 TFT
networking: dell bluetooth 300, intel wifi 2100
