Thread Starter
I just recently purchased my first laptop M6807. I normally leave my desktop on 24/7 and i was wondering if it's ok for me to do the same for the laptop??Would it effect my laptop or battery in the long run??I also have another question about the dvd burner..What is the cheapest media I can use?? would princo or other low end media work with this burner??

Make sure you have it on a good surfuce or a cooling pad if you want to leave it on 24/7

i leave mine on 24/7 and there's no problem. mine is m505x (pentium-m btw). heat doesn't actually accumulate thru time, especially if u open the lid. if u plug it in i don't think u actually use the battary. the only problem i foresee is the hd, since it's not designed to run continuously (unless u have the 7K60E), but u can always set it to power it off after some time of idle.

I've had my M6805 running SETIatHOME for a few weeks solid now... it only gets turned off when I'm actually taking it out of the house on weekends. Right now it is set to run at full speed all the time, and SETI keeps it mostly crankin' at 100%...

The case is cool to the touch... top, sides and bottom. I love this computer!

I also run Seti 24\7 on my 6805, (Team Anandtech) and have been running it on a toshiba Lap for just over 2 years 24\7 with temps at 63 c.

You can leave it on 24/7, but it's not a good idea. Laptops struggle with heat dissipation. And over time the heat can damage some of the components. Esp if there is dust inside (and the longer it is on, the better the chance for this). Dust is insulating and mildly conductive.

If you must leave them on all the time, open then up and clean out the dust from time to time.
Also get one of those cooling pads with a few fans in it to help cool the laptop down.
Cheap insurance.
