VAIO SZ - Battery still charging @ 100%

I have a VAIO SZ230, bought only a couple of days ago. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, actually, as my laptop seems to perform fine when running on both battery and ac power, but the icon in the system tray has been bugging me lately, because it seems as though even when my battery has been charged to its full capacity, it is still charging, or at least thinks its still charging. When I open up the power meter, it will say that there is 100% remaining, but next to that, it will say (charging). I'm unsure if this is a defective battery, perhaps, or worse, but so far, other than this simple disturbing fact (simply because I don't know why it says it's still charging...), I have had no performance issues. But, I'm somewhat uncomfortable about this, and I believe I can still bring it back if need be. Can anyone tell me what I should do in this situation?

I thnik that when youre on ac, it constantly charges, if the battery is in. which is why many people recommend fully draining and rechaiging the battery every 30 dyas or so.

there was an issue with the exact same kind of problem with the notebook model that I got (Asus Z71v) The batteries were defective, and I'm guessing that the batteries in your notebooks are defective as well. What Asus eventually did for the Z71v is have the company that made the batteries (Samsung, IIRC) redesign them, and they replaced the defective ones with the redesigned ones. Hopefully it's not a model-wide problem like it was for the Z71v, but I'm pretty sure the battery is what you're looking at. I'd get Sony to replace it if I were you.

my first laptop was a Sony. My grandparents gave me theirs for free because they never used it. Of course, since I've come to these forums and become a notebook snob, they don't want to hear me talk about notebooks anymore

Are you sure this could be a defective battery, or might it just be the fact that it's naturally always charging to some degree? It just seems that if it were defective, there wouldn't really be many others with this problem, unless there is a design flaw, in which case simply replacing it probably wouldn't help anyhow. I've tested out the battery life and it seems more than adequate, 2 hours 50 mins while listening to music and running multiple programs, with no power saving options enabled. I've seen no symptoms behind this, so I'm starting to think it might not be a problem. I just hate thinking about the possibility that the battery's life span might be reduced if this 'constant charging' idea is fully accurate.

if you have Notebook Hardware Control, you can also check the battery's wear level and charge voltage. If the wear level starts to jump drastically, it's likely a battery problem.

For other possible options, there could also be an issue with either your AC adapter or the power supply of the notebook.

I've just downloaded it and it says that there is a wear level of 0%. It's at 57720 mWh as it's supposed to be. Another thing I've noticed, from this program, is that although it's charging, or so it says, it's charging at an amount that continually decreases once reaching 100% to around .8w I think it was (i tried unplugging it for a few moments to see the effects, but I think it was at .8 before doing so). When there is actual room for it to charge, it charges at a faster rate than that. I'm not familiar with what the normal rates are, but is .8w so miniscule that it perhaps doesn't even matter? Anyhow, from the looks of this program, seeing that there's no wear level, I'm guessing there's no problem with the battery. Are there any ways I could test to see if the power supply or ac adapter are functioning properly? I mean, so far, I have experienced absolutely no problems, it's just the fact that the icon says it's charging... There have just been no side effects whatsoever, thus far.

I know on my computer, the proper charging pattern slowly and gradually decreases the charge voltage from around 35W at 0% charged to 3W at 99% charged. When I had a defective battery, the charge voltage stayed over 20W and then suddenly dropped to .035W at the break point. Initially the break point would be so close to 100% that it wasn't an issue, but it quickly dropped to 70%, then down to 40% after a couple weeks.
