Would the Sager 9890-C do what I need it to do?

I am currently thinking of purchasing a Sager 9890-C Notebook and I would upgrade the following options
-Processor (3.2GHz P4 w/2MB L2 cache & EM64T(640))
-RAM (1024MB 533DDR2 (1x1024))
-Primary Hard Drive (60GB 7200RPM SATA)

Evertying else I would leave how it comes but I dont know to much about computers so I'm not sore if this would do what I need it to do. I would be using it for playing some MMO's like The Matrix Online, Battlefield 2, and City Of Villians.
So any input at all would be erally helpful.

Thanks

Having owned a Sager 9860, which the 9890 is based on, I can't recommend them. Look over the support sections for the various laptops to get a decent idea of reliability. Were I to buy a big gaming laptop now, I would probably give the Dell e1705 or XPS1710 a serious look.

I recomend against getting a pentium 4. Those chips ar pretty much on their way out. Plus they run VERY hot (not good for notebooks or any computer in general) Its better to get one of the new Core Duo's. But if you want a massive desktop replacement then go with the Athlon powered 9750 instead.

Well I could get a cooling pad to help with the heat problem but I've already looked at the DELL Inspiron E1705 and the XPS systems but just outta my price range. When I saw this and the 3.2GHZ processor, 1GB RAM, and the GeForce 7800GTX for $1770 I thought it sounded really could but I guess not. So what else would you recomend that I could get around that price range.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of an extended warranty, which you will probably want to get in case you decide to go for a big DTR gaming notebook.

TV brings up a good point, with your budget it might be better for you to wait for the Merom machines to come out since they will run cooler, longer, and probably cost less than the big DTR P4's (or Conroe's which you probably won't need just for gaming).

In todays gaming world a P4 3.2ghz and 1GB of RAM wont get you as far as it used to. Going up to 2GB will help a lot with that though.

But a P4, like I said, is on its way out. The chips are being replaced by the brand new Conroe's now and before they were being replaced by the Pentium D's. The P4's run very hot and a cooling pad wont help them much.

As Starcub stated, you'll probably want an extended warranty with a 9890, they're very prone to failure mostly because of heat.

If you want a massive DTR type notebook go with the Athlon powered 9750. It runs much cooler than a 9890 and has a lot more processing power. (if you still believe the GHZ hype, dont! Athlons, Pentium M's, and Core Duo's all run better than even 3.8ghz P4's).

Since cost is an issue, look around to see if anyone still sells the 5720 models. They have a 7800GTX and a Pentium M processor. They've been discontinued but are still very powerful machines and will play anything and everything at highest settings (except maybe Oblivion)

I have found on ebay that I can get a Dell Inspiron E1705 withe the folliwing specs for $1,670 with S&H.
-Intel Duo Core T2500 2GHz
-2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM
-256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS
-17 inch WUXGA display
-100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

That sounds pretty good to me but I'm not really sure so let me know what yall think.

Specs are awesome and thats a good price for the specs. But I dont recomend Dell. Sub-par quality and horrid tech support. Please nobody flame me for that, that was the experience all my friends and I have had with Dell.

Did you consider wether or not you really need a notebook? If all you're doing is games a brand new bitchin' desktop computer that'll kick more ass than you can imagine can be built for that kind of money.

Its your choice, go for it if you want. As long as you're happy, thats what matters

O yes I have considered a desktop cuz I would love to be able to get one of those because of the price difference but I do a lot of traveling so I need something portable so yes a notebook.

if your willing to consider a dell, check out their outlet page. I've been seeing some crazy deals lately on there. There are great deals on ebay, but then you also run the risk of a scam, which would kill your laptop experience (not to mention putting you out a great deal of $$) there are also great sellers here at NBF, like balthzar (SP?) so go ahead and stop by the for sale section tooo.

i'll post a link to one of the latest dell outlet deals just to give you an idea.

heres a link to the outlet
http://www.dell.com/content/default....en&s=dfh&cs=22
(or just do a google search on dell outlet)

all of the computers are stated as being refurbished (dell policy, even if they are brand new). Granted, some of these are, but your most likely betting on one that was a cancelled/ returned order. most of them come with great warrenties also. Deff worth checking out IMHO.

I never had any serious issues with my Dell Inspiron, except after about 6 years when the hinges busted, so I never used anything other than online support which I found to be good. Dell also does more volume than many other companies, so you should expect that more people would report problems.

I REALLY like the fact that Dell (Apple too) owns up to their problems and corrects them (recent battery issue) even when they aren't the company at fault. Wish I could say the same for Sager, which seems to me not to care about their customers and looks for technicalities to avoid accepting responsibility for the products they sell.

Uncfan, your budget is low for a gaming notebook, you'll probably need to lower your expectations, maybe look for a deal on a 15" laptop, maybe something used. It's probably going to break before you would expect it too, so budget for repairs, or maybe think about buying a service plan from a 2nd party.
