Lenovo 3000 N100 Memory

A buddy of mine just got a 3000 N100 and as they only come with 512 mb RAM, i suggested he get another 512 or 1 gb. He got a deal at best buy on 1 gb Kingston Value Ram (KVR533D2SO/1GR) This is PC4200 memory and the base 512mb is pc5300. When we try to boot the system it says "unsupported memory installed" is this due to the speed difference or is this memory just not supported by the system. Will this Corsair Ram work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145008

Thanks

Yes that corsair will work, however he'd be better off getting matched pair or 1x1 gig stick with the 512 installed, unless its 2/256 in the system

sidenote: any way you can get some pics of that lappie for me? cause im interested in getting it, and what your friend thinks of it?

would this work for the 1 gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220078 i know ibm has a history of being picky with hardware upgrades and it seems to me that lenovo is following suit.

I will get some pics for you later today. I messed around with it last night for a while and i was actually quite impressed. i think its a bit thicker than my Dell D820 and i believe the case is all plastic but it seems to be built as well if not better than my $2000 Latitude. Next time i need a new computer, i will definetly be checking into whatever Lenovo/IBM has available. Ive used thinkpads in the past and have an old T23 right now that still runs like a bull. The reviews on notebookreview.com were pretty good and from what i saw last night, id have no problem reccommending it but ill ask him and get some pictures for you later.

I was in a similar situation. Bought a lenovo N100 at OD on saturday. Though memory upgrade was not absolutely necessary, I did upgrade it to 1 GB from PC2-5300 patriot 512MB stick from local Frys($49.99). It works flawless. If I buy locally I always buy from Frys because they are the only store where no questions are asked while returning an item . Also the price differential was not too much between online and locally for 512MB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory.
