Audio Problems

I just purchased a Dell notebook from a friend who was moving out of state. She purchased it less than a year ago. I tried listening to music the other day and there is no noise it gives me somekid of message that the hardware is not working or properly installed. I'm not very good with computers, so if someone can please help by letting me know what I have to do to get sound on my notebook.

call dell. they will walk you through some troubleshooting steps. that is probably the best place to start right off the bat.
then if they can't figure it out, let us know!
