I have tried LINUX on my 7405GX Before, It run Fast, Cool and nice, but, I couldn't do much with it due to the fact that most all of my programs I use were windows based, OSX86 and LINUX is about the same thing just for those of you who didn't know that!

It would be so sweet if (1) I OSX can be install on any of my laptop or desktop, and (2) have a good performance like it native.

qhn, do you know the "dude" personally or just an online acquaintance. Does he/she have any post/site that we (I) can reference.

he is my sidekick, working in germany, spending his spare time mostly hacking about, taking things apart. he owns an iBook G5, so he is kinda legal with his software reference site (not his) http://osx86project.org/ interesting reading, we used to have Kaido in this gateway/emachines forum who is now a Mac user/owner, may be (if he reads this) he can make some input into it me, personally, i just clone the mac on my system, apple (like sony) is too expensive - do like the look though cheers ...

That statement is so inaccurate I don't even know where to begin to explain it.

Well I've Seen & Played w/ both LINUX & OSX, they both look feel, and Operate the same to me, but, HEY, I'm a Windows Guy, I really didn't care for any of them, so, I'm not gonna argue with you , However, if you could find a way to explain, Please share with us?

OS X, Linux, and Windows all basically look, feel, and operate the same way, but that doesn't make them "about the same thing".

Linux is linux, OSX is a gui/package for unix (dawin) IMO. I had OXS86 10.4.3 (I think) running on my 7405gx. I had to do the sse3 patch, but it worked pretty well after that. Im sure that this patch is included in the newer releases as this was over 10 months ago.

I dont remember it being that buggy or having any major issues. I couldnt find drivers for my wireless card, so I gave up.

Same here, I couldn't get any of my windows programs to work, like, Burnning CD's & DVD's, MP3's Norton Ghost, to name a few, also a lot of Drivers were missing, so, I give up on it, just like WIN 64Bit OS, They were useless to me, I suppose everything would work if you purchased a IBOOK or a GS5 cuz it ships with OSX, but I wouldn't know that, never went for the Apple PC's I do however have a copy of both LINUX & OSX, but they are useless to me............ and sit somewhere collecting dust...........along with all of my other OS CD's W2K Pro, WIN ME, WIN XP HOME, WIN98 WIN95

Well no, none of your windows programs are going to work in either osx or any form of linux unless you emulate a win32 environment/file structure. There are answers for most windows programs for linux and osx, you just have to look.

osx86project.org is the best place to start. If you want more info on linux I suggest fedora.redhat.com

a list of successful os-X installations on x86 machines at:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/in....4.6/Portables

cheers ...

No Thanks.........I'd rather buy an I-Book or a GS5, that way, everything it ships with will work, less of a hassel for me...BTW the LINUX and OSX I got for Free from my Sister she's a High SchoolTeacher, so she get's HUGE DISCOUNTS on any APPLE I-Book or GS5 PC's

Well, one could buy a MAC product, but it would not be as challanging to get it to work on some thing that wasn't really design for.

I had osx for x86 running om my eMachine m6811 (a not so distant cousin to your Gateway) a while back just to check it out. Driver support was poor on 10.4.1 uesd the dead moo image and went from vmware to native. Screen resolution was stuck at 1024*768 and that doesnt look pretty on an 1280*800 screen, sound worked but only one channel. No network support at the time (maybe the via rhine drivers will work, but I haven't had a chance to try them), I got osx see the broadcom wifi card, but it thought it was an ethernet adapter and told me that the media was disconnected. Oh yeah, there was no graphics acceleration, so no 3d apps.

A few months later I tried out 10.4.3 it installed fine off of a patched install DVD, but still had same issues. It looks like someone managed to get 10.4.6 running on an m68XX machine from this.

If I can get the install dvd for that relase I might give it a whirl.

Today I downloaded the latest uphuck OSX Install DVD for AMD systems, I hooked up a spare hard driver, launched the installer, using disk utility I got the hard disk ready for the install.
It seems to have installed right, however, upon boot-up I get the error
System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found

Any tips? M6810
