Which wireless router?

Well, I'm looking for a cheap but reliable wireless router. Notebook I am getting in a few days has a Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n Dual-band Internal Wireless card so I am wondering what would give me the best speeds, least drops and best overall "gaming" experience. House is fairly small so I don't need a huge range I just worry about interference since I do live by a fairly large military radar dome.

Also trying to keep prices down a little but expect this to last 3 years or more so I can splurge a little.

Thanks

I've read some stuff on the WRT54GL, not really appealing.

I have the old wrt54g (now it's the wrt54gl) and found it pretty good. If I would say something bad about it, it would be exactly the range, because I've read about the new ones (pre-N, IIRC) and they are very good at this, something that will crush the bones of my WRT.

However, if I talk about performance, it's excellent. Never dropped a connection (I lie: on my first month, I didn't configure it right, but two chat sessions with Linksys tech suport solved it). On B mode the range is increased a bit, but I use it on G. Finally, about latency, I don't think that an increase of 2ms (max. I could ever measure) is something to be worried about. It's not like you will miss that head on CS...

Ah... It's open source (customizable) and the configuration pages are very well programmed. I can't tell the same about other brands...

Here's some reverse information:
don't get a D-Link DI-524. It's a bit locksup-ey.

I'll get a Linksys when the problems get too severe...

I have a Netgear wgt614 (version 6 I think) and it has been excellent. Cost about 40 bucks.

EDIT: typo

I have an old Netgear B wireless router (MR 314) that I will be replacing when my new Hypersonic notebook arrives soon.

I am leaning toward Netgear again because I have not had any problems with the reliability on my current router. It is always just here and not something I have to tinker with.

I too have a laptop (XPS M1210) with a Dell Wireless 1500 draft N card. I tried the Wireless Draft N by linksys but have been having tons of problems with it (ie dropped connections, intermittent outages, etc). So I went with the router recommended by Dell (WNR834B) by Netgear. At first I was having similar problems with this but a quick call to Netgear tech support fixed the problem (he had me drop the data rate from 270 to 130) and that seemed to optimize my throughput across the network. The router cost $129 but I also got a $15 gift card from Best Buy.

WRT54GL and flash it with DDWRT now you have Vlans, VPN capabilities, static DHCP, WOL, OC abilities, advanced routing, captive hosting, everything..

i have a DI524, wasnt bad, never screwed up, it was slow but did what it was supposed to, wifi range wasnt great, sold it for $30

DI624, same as 524 with more things but all the dlink main stream routers are ghetto, send and recv on 1 antenna? come on.. dont be cheap..

I've had the WRT54GS for over a year with no problems (knock wood)
the draft N routers are pretty expensive and brand new. I'd probably hold off on getting one of them until future generations come out..

I picked up the ZyXel Xtreme wireless router that's regular price $110 ($40 after rebates at CompUSA last week) and so far it's been amazing. No technical problems whatsoever, works like a dream (especially compared to my previous Belkin router).

I'd definitely go for the WRT54GL. I have two of them both are running HyperWRT, though I might have to experiment with DDWRT on the spare router.

I bought a NETGEAR WPN824 RANGEMAX MIMO Wireless 802.11g Router for a fairly decent price. Heard mixed reviews on it but I figured I would chance it. Waiting for it to arrive, will do a review when I recieve it.

Thanks all who replied.
