W3 v w7...

Well after about 2 years i am itching to get a new lappy, and after being out of the market for a while i have come across the W7J. I am somewhat between two laptops to replace my aging A5n.

My main, most top wanted features are batterylife and lightweight. Since i am still a student (hopefully graduating this year) i carry my laptop around everywhere and need it to last through an almost an entire day without a plugin. I have my S5n configured with the optional 9 cell battery and a custom power scheme to last me almost 8.5 hours using wifi, but many things disabled, etc.

Anyways what one of these are going to fit my needs the best? After getting my Dell 2405FPW for xmas last year it is hard to go back to my 12.1 screen, so im looking for a widescreen laptop, that is why i am kinda interested in the 13.3 screen on the W7J.

Anyways from what i have read the W7 will have a 9 cell later this year, but what about other battery options for the W3? Im not really interested in gaming on my laptop, since that is what i have a desktop for, but i do play the occational DoD, CS 1.6, Doom, STSFCIII, etc. But it would be nice to step put to a dedicated video card.

Alright so do you guys have any pros and cons of these two systems?

Thanks!

The W7J already has a 9 cell available, but it does stick out the back a bit and wobbles I heard. Should get about 4 -5 hours with the 9 cell. The default battery gets only an average of 2.5 hours or so... And it also has 512MB memory soldered onboard, so the max you can get at the moment is 1.5GB, unless of course you have tons of cash and can spend a couple of thousand to get a 2GB memory module ( I think 1.5GB is more than enough for most people at the moment though...)

The W3J has a modular bay where you can put in an extra battery, so with both batteries in there, some ppl have reported about 5 hours life.

If you don't really game heavily, the W7J should be sufficient (it's got a Go7400 mind you, not integrated graphics.. so it's pretty good also for certain games) providing you don't mind the 9 cell sticking out its back and a rather average battery life with its default 6 cell one. It's lightweight, looks nice and has the same screen estate as the W3J.

Don't think there's too many cons to the W3J, prob you already know of the hot air blowing out the vent on the right rear side (still bearable as some ppl have testified), but other than that.. can't think of any cons...

I really wish that the W7 got better batterylife, coming from my S5n that has a 9 cell I can get almost 10 hours if i have most everything shut off. Plus the S5n doesnt have an integrated optical drive.

Anywho thanks for the info, the W7 looks sweet! Im really itching to get one.

I have the S5Ne, with the modular 9 cell battery it's pretty hard to top of 8.5 hours of battery. Even with today's technology the S5Ne with the modular battery it's still pretty much at the top of it's game. I just bring the AC adaptor with my 8100 now anyway, I need it for work.

thats what i have been thinking as well, for battery life as well as weight. But yesterday i toped out at 10.5 hours, today its about 9.5 hours total.
