Laptop Suggestions?

Thread Starter
I didn't really know anywhere else to post this (maybe in general, but who reads that? - so please don't move =) ). Essentially I was wondering what you guys thoughts were on the best laptop in these criteria:

Relatively portable/slick- looks light from 5-8 pounds.
Gfx Card Powerhouse- 9600 128 MB
Affordable- Roughly 2000, hopefully a bit less.

I was thinking of thinking that it might be Centrino. I liked the way the Sentia looked, but it was pretty weak in terms of graphics. The Sager 5xxx looked ok, but a bit too bulky? What I was really hoping for was the version of the Voodoo Envy 5** or something like that. It was exactly everything I wanted- and I think Hypersonic had something just like that too- but both of them overcharge like hell. I was wondering if Sager (or anyone else) offered anything that was an equivalent of this style of laptop? Thanks.

As I write this there are 30 people in the sager general and 31 in the notebook general. This thread is going where it belongs.

Why not the Sager 4080?

I can answer that. I got the zForce F2 after I took a long, hard look at the Sager 4080.

The 4080 has an awesome screen, no doubt, and the price is *very* nice. The only problems were that the battery life was pitifully short (I heard 60-90 minutes, MAX), and that the thing gets unbelievably hot (i.e. can't be placed on lap).

For 5-8 lbs., going the P4 route is going to be a bit tough; it's doable (i.e. the 4080), but these machines are rare b/c people like to go all out when they get their powerhouse P4's anyway, and that adds to the weight. The only machine that I can think of w/ a P-M and a 128 MB m10 at <$2000 is the Dell i8600.

Dell Inspiron 9100 is your best bet right now. It is about 8 lb, and got ATI 9700 and the basic setup is just $1400
