All,
Be forewarned, this is a rant, don't expect any meaningful advice from this post!
I just got my 7405GX back from Bestbuy/GeekSquad, and I couldn't be angrier. I initially sent it in because it suddenly died, and exhibited the well-known capacitor issue (Might boot, might not, crashes randomly on boot, etc.). The solution is simple, a new Motherboard. So, three weeks go by, and I got it back. First off, it won't turn on. The Geek tells me battery must be dead, and can't find a power adapter (They told me to keep mine, so it was at home.) So, already ticked off, I head home and plug it in. Nothing. Try the usual steps, etc. Nothing. So back to Bestbuy I go. Geek tells me they replaced the motherboard, must have been damaged during shipping as they ALWAYS test before they return. Uh-huh. Fine. I demand to see his manager, who does nothing more than put in another warranty service ticket, which means another three weeks. Told him I'd fix it myself, since they were so incompetent. Get it home, start to strip it down, and what do I see?
Dust. inside both the RJ11 and RJ45 jacks. Waaaaait a minute! I take a closer look at the plugs (Which are soldered on to the Motherboard they say they replaced, BTW) and realize that they're ALL dusty and show signs of wear. Then I look at the VGA port on the back, which I'd scratched a while back accidentally. SAME SCRATCH.
By this time it was after 9pm, so I couldn't get back there before they closed, which is probably a good thing.
On the brighter side, I've posted a solution to the 7XXX/68XX flicker Problem!
