Any Clues?

My Sager 9860 was working fine this morning and i shut it down and brought to work with me. I go to turn it on and nothing shows up the screen and boots. I have power going into it and the fans still work but nothing on the screen, just blank. Checked forums and couldn't find whats going on. Looked inside as far as i can and saw no cable disconnected. Does anyone knows what the problem might be and is there any images out there on how to fully disassemble the sager 9860.

dude, you are officially HOSED ...

you will find that your motherboard is bad ... hope you're still under warranty. If not, then it's about a $600 fix (new motherboard). Sager doesn't have anymore 9860 motherboards, they will put in a 9890 motherboard and if your GPU is ok, they will give you the option of putting in your old 6800go Nvidia or give you the option of upgrading (for another near $500) to a 7900 Nvidia card.

I've gone through 2 motherboards in 1.5 years (sigh); the first was under warranty, the second was not. I'm planning on getting a merom notebook when they come out (and I will wait a few months until the inevitable kinks get worked out) so I opted to just have them put in my old GPU.

Remember, when you have non-warrantied work done, you get put at the end of their priority list, so the guaranteed 5 day turn around will not apply.

My purchase was originally through powernotebooks.com and the owner Donald was terrific in interceding for me ... I got mine back in 4 days! That wouldn't have happened unless he had contacted Sager on my behalf. If you didn't get your 9860 through powernotebooks, i would contact the reseller you bought yours from and see if they will help you intercede with Sager to get yours done fast.

sorry for the bad news. i know it sucks, but that's the way it is.

Clevo Usa Parts

You can give these folks a call to see if they have the parts. I have ordered from them in the past. If your computer is not under warranty or covered under an extended warranty, these are the people to call. You either have to mail them the payment or pay for the part when it arrives. They ship C.O.D. and there are no fees for doing that.

One other thought about warranties.... if you used a credit card to purchase the computer, most CC's cover you for one year beyond a 12 month warranty. It's worth checking into before you spend a bunch of money for parts/repair.

I had exactly the same problem with my 9860 a couple of months ago. One day i unpluged the power supply while the laptop was still on and it just froze and when i reset it nothing. The led's would turn on, fans too but screen was blank even after several attempts. I eventually emailed Sager about it and they told me its bad ram.
I had 2 sticks of 512mb ram installed and i tried each one of them seperately in various slots and in the end it was indeed one of the sticks. I just ran it with only 512mb until i bought another stick and installed it.

In the begining i thought i fried my motherboard too but it turned out to be the ram. Try it you never know. If its the ram you'll save a lot of money.
