MY 7700 is DEAD

Thread Starter
i was Very happy to get my alienware 7700 laptop
cause i belive i'm the first one here in EGYPT to get one
the problem is i got it from EBay
ok no big deal on that ( i thought so )

10 months later

it's summer time & it's really hot here & you all know what kind of heat 7700 make
so i moved the laptop into air conditioning

long story short

the air condition was ON
temp of room was 25C
& i started to smell something cooking

i swithced it off & checked it & there was nothing
i switch it on again & it didn't respond

i opened the case & find some burns on the motherboard

i tried to contact Alienware USA & they said that the warranty is non transferable. that mean only the person who bought has the right to ask for warranty

i tried to find a replacment motherboard but everywhere i looked it was out of stalk.

can anyone help me here !!
i need to get that motherboard ASAP
all my work is stuck on that laptop

the motherboard is
71-D90T0-D05

someone was saying before that alienware currently has those on backorder so there may be none left anywhere

i'm guessing ebay couldn't help you find a new motherboard?

These guys might be able to help. The AW 7700 is a Clevo platform.

There is also this place, but most of their parts are "pulls", or used parts.

These companies are in the US...

thnx Hammerhead
but the board is still out of stok there too

& those people trying to SCAM me by email please stop it i'm not that stupid

Hmmm...

You might try contacting Sager computers. They also resell the same base platform the m7700 is based upon. They were doing motherboard and video card upgrades for Alienware customers at the same price they offered their own customers, so they may be willing to repair your system for you or sell you the parts.

This place has parts, and they do repairs, but I don't know anything about them...

Only other suggestion I can think of is a google search...

i found a replacment motherboard at rjtech.com
it's a 71-D90T0-D06 ( updated version than my 71-D90T0-D05 )

i hope this work or i'l have no hope for this laptop & all my work on it

thnx again Hammerhead
& in case i did get the replament mother board can anyone help me installing it ? i'm good in hardware but never change a motherboard for laptop before most of my work is on PCs.

We'll help if we can...

I don't know what it would cost from Egypt, but can you ship your computer to rjtech.com and let them do the repair? Might be easier if it's not too expensive...
Might be cheaper to just buy another one than ship it all over the globe trying to get it fixed.

shiping it from egypt to rjtech.com & repairing then shipping back to me will cost almost as a new alienware 7700

anyway i'm very good in hardware but i never open & change 7700 before so i wanted some help about what should i do first
i dont want to fix something & break something else
thanks again for your help

Since you are mostly concern with your data, just take the hard drive out and put it in another notebook.

today i was contacted by alienware UK
after they said the warranty is non-transferable in thier previous email
they said i can create an account with them & ship the laptop to them & they will repair it for me but with £600 or more cost.
that's like $1200

here is thier email
--------------
We can arrange to have the syetm brought back for repair but first we need to create an account for you. Therefore can you provide for me the following;
- Address
- Phone Number
- Email

Regarding the quote for an out of warranty depot you will be looking at a cost of around £500 to £600 pounds (including tax and shipping). Here is the breakdown of the costs;

*Parts and Two-way shipping – These are charged at the VAT rate of the country that the system is being shipped to e.g. UK 17.5%, Germany 16.5% etc.
*Diagnostics Fee - €100 or £70 charged at 13.5% VAT
*Labour - €20 or £15 per hour charged at 13.5% VAT

The normal procedure is to charge the shipping and diagnostics fee before we bring the system back and the rest is calculated after the system is repaired.

Also, for future reference we do deliver systems to Egypt.

If you need any further assistance please let us know.

i think i'll stick to the first plan & repair it myself

Give this a shot & let us know if it fixes anything:

Right click on My Computer
Select Manage
Open the "Storage" tree if it is not already expanded
Click on Disk Management

Play around with that to see if you can assign a drive letter

Hope that helps!
