This is before the windows install option of even seeing the partitions to have the option to format. Bios cant see them at all. Ive tried to reseat them, checked the cables, etc. I have no clue how to format the HD's without a OS or getting into the OS command prompt. Is there a utility that could do this? Also, is there a way to install the RAID driver without doing it through the windows install?

The power connection on my M7700 motherboard has started to come lose. Would it be easier to take the mobo out and have a repair shop resolder it or are there benefits to getting the new revision of the motherboard? I thought I'd read that it solved some heating issues?

Also, while I have it cracked open, I'd like to replace my touchpad but can't seem to locate any site that sells the part. Anyone ever seen one for sale? Looks to be an easy replacement once you have the case taken apart.

my variable speed fan controller went out, meaning all the fans stopped working. luckily, i had a v6.x so i can press Fn-F2 and override my fan controller, making the fans full speed! if i do this quickly while bios is running the fans kick on and the lappy boots normally. problem is, i guess it encountered some heat damage before my wife informed me it was crashing, and i noticed the fans werent running... go figure. so i suppose, ill replace the mobo first, so i can get the fan controller operating normally, hopefully thatll fix my crashing. otherwise, ill have to figure out whether the gpu or cpu is burned up. i can only hope that it is the chipset on the mobo. once i get the mobo replaced ill report back. thanks to everyone that has posted here, this is by far the most extensive tool for fixing your cleo D900T. to contribute something, Z*tronics sells the mobo on ebay for around $350. cheers!

Be wary of the Z*tronics sales and make sure you know what you are getting. It took 2 RMAs for me to get a a MoBo from them that wasn't missing mount posts/rings. I ordered from them in April on eBay after my original board overheated and fried. The auction marked the boards as *NEW* but the first board came missing 2 mounting posts for the video card and one mounting ring for the heat sink assembly over the CPU. The second board was missing a one post in the video area and was notably twisted near the rear ports. The third board came in and appears clean, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet. That is this weekend's project. If this doesn't work, I will be going to RJ Tech, which I would have done in the first place if I had found this thread sooner!

Hey what are you doing with your DEAD board? would you be willing to get rid of it?
Hi guys, I have a dead mobo in my AlienWare 7700 and think I am gonna order one from ZTronics on ebay since it is about half the price of rjtech.(hoping it is revision 6) Got that baby stripped down tonight. Thanks for the pictures omagian, they were a life saver.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

Anyone bought a board from Ztronics? Trying to find out what revision it is and they have to be one of the worst I have encountered on ebay for responding to correspondence. Could really use the 200 bucks I would save but willing to fork over the extra cash just to avoid a headache.

Getting mine replaced under warranty...

Just found this thread and wow - very helpful.

I do have a question though. My area 51 m7700 works perfectly fine, but I was wondering what I could do to upgrade it. I looked at my MOBO - its a version 5.2a. I currently have the ATI mobility RAdeon x800 and P4 3.6JGHZ 1MB processor. Based on looking at online forums, I have found that people have installed the newer 7950 graphics cards and faster processors using the v6 MOBO. The main question is - being my notebook works completely fine right now, is this upgrading worth it for the price? Will the performance be better to warrant the cost? Also, will I experience overheating issues with these new, more powerful components? Thanks in advance.
It would be ridiculously costly to upgrade a 7700 at this point. The new motherboard and card together would run over $1000 and even then that's only a 7900 or 7950, when desktop 8800 series GPU's are blowing them out of the water. Also, new graphics cards are coming out in a month or so. In addition, you will see a lot more heat produced by a higher end graphics card. I would save my money and buy a completely new computer, maybe even with minimal RAM and HDD storage and pull the RAM/ hard drives out my 7700 and put them in the new computer (to save some money).

There have also been a lot of problems with the 7700s in terms of motherboards frying and whatnot. I would strongly recommend NOT putting money into this system.

Thanks for the input!

I got a 6.2 off of ebay and I am wondering where I can get the blue heat dissipator/tape seen here over the chipset next to the processor. Not sure what it is called. Anyone know what I can call this stuff? Its like a sticky piece of blue tape but not tape.

That's a thermal pad and you'd be better off using something like Arctic Silver 5 for the video card and processor heatsinks. It's not expensive, and provides a MUCH better cooling solution.
I have Shin Etsu X23-7783D that I was gonna use on the processor itself. Should I remove that blue thermal pad and put the Shin Etsu directly on the chips? Or are you just talking about on the processor itself? I don't see how the chips make contact with the heatsink, I mean how I could effectively use thermal grease/paste.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Never messed with a laptop before but pretty knowledgable about desktops.
