I just got my m5750 yesterday
so i'll write my thoughts.
Specs (the important ones):
intel core duo 1.66Ghz
1GB ddr2 ram
17" widescreen 1440x900
80GB sata drive 5400RPM
ATI mobility radeon x1800 256MB
windows xp home
The first thing I noticed was how big the thing was. I've seen 17" laptops in stores, but like someone commented on another post, they look a lot smaller in the store. It is relatively light, 8 lbs I think and it is very thin.
The screen is great, I had no dead pixels. It is very sharp and has good contrast, the black is black, not grey like cheap LCDs.
I ran it for a couple hours and it does get warm on the wrist rests. I don't know how long the battery lasts because I never ran it off of the battery.
I had to update the video card drivers rightaway. For some reason they were using the ATI mobility catalyst drivers from February.
I didn't use the touchpad much, I like having a mouse. It comes very unsensitive, you have to sweep your finger about four times to get it across the screen. The keyboard is kind of cramped too. I kept hitting the Fn key instead of the Ctrl key in Oblivion (which is the only game i've installed on it so far, and is a great benchmark since it is more intensive than anything else on the market.)
I only tried it out on Oblivion and I have to say.............it runs beautifully! It auto-detected ULTRA-HIGH quality! I adjusted it somewhat to suit my tastes (like turning off the Barbara Walters special HDR effect and using bloom, turning the view distance down and I did the standard multi-thread and memory usage ini tweaks.) I got 20-40 FPS in the great forest with the unique environments lushwoodland mod on (which increases the foliage). I get 40+ in dungeons and ruins and 25-35+ in cities. All in all in runs much better with more eye candy (at native 1440x900 resolution at ultra-high quality with the aforementioned changes) than my desktop (which isn't that great: P4 3.0Ghz w/ HT, 1GB DDR ram, BFG 6600GT OC AGP 128MB, 40GB HDD for windows and 300GB SATA for games. I run Oblivion on it at medium settings at 1024x768 with it never going over 25 FPS in the forests)
All in all I am very pleased with the m5750's performance. All of you that ordered one or is thinking about ordering one will NOT be dissapointed.
