He had mentioned that every system with the MCE edition is automatically shipped with a TV Tuner...

I dont even know if I got the TV tuner, and cant find anything in the device manager.

I feel stupid.

It's not automatically shipped, you have to choose it as an option. When you pick windows MCE in the configurator, the options for tuners and remotes then appear.

I also ordered a m9700 but here in Europe, you can't order any computer on AW with MCE loaded for some reason.
However, i have a copy of Media Center here at home which i no longer use. Can i somehow get AW to install the tuner anyway?

There is a possibility they may do this for you. Just call them and ask nicely (several times if you have to).

I don't know why the tv tuner isn't an option in europe... It's likely since they don't offer it, they won't have it to install unless they're planning on offering it soon and it's in testing or something.

You should call and ask to be sure though.

You might be able to find a laptop repair shop that can order a tuner and install it for you, or you could just buy a usb tv tuner and use that. It will perform the same. The usb tv tuners are external and connect through a usb port...

I'll ask my computer-technician/geek friend, i guess. He can fix any computer in any state, so i think he will be capable of performing that operation .

If you or your friend plan on installing the tuner use the Alienware Knowlegebase on their web site. If you don't see anything on the site right now just check often for updates. Also, you can contact the manufacturer directly for any installation questins.

A USB tuner is a great alternative to an internal tuner and works just as well (sometimes better*depending on brand*). The only downside is that there is an extra peripheral attached to your rig.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip . I prefer internal over external mainly because of the extra USB ports that will be occupied, so that's why i hope to get an internal tuner. I will also call Alienware monday and see if i can get them to install a TV tuner.
If not i will just install one myself (with help of my friend). Is

I went out and bought the Pinnacle Systems PCTV 50e link, but unfortunatly I havent got around to getting a receiver for this room for my DirecTV. Just curious if anyone knows the time/storage space ratio for average tv recording? I may go out and get another external HDD for recording purposes, and to hold up my ever-so-constant mass of music. (112 gigs of songs, taking up nearly all of my 150 gig external HDD)

He gets around...However I think his $350 and hour just became a self pitty move. We should remind him that his monetary loss was just 2 hours of his work

It's hard to have much sympathy for people who don't even try to get their issues resolved. I do feel for folks that get a high end notebook that doesn't work perfectly out of the box...unfortunately, there is always a bit of risk when you're getting the latest, greatest stuff.

Something tells me he's just a very insecure 12 year old who came to nbf to troll on AW after his parents said "no" when he asked them for an m9700.

Soul if you're reading this, don't worry little guy, check out this here link to solve your problems. WAIT! DON'T CLICK THE LINK YET. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR PARENTS' OKAY TO SURF THE NET FIRST.

so blizard, are you "insulting" people who go to physciatrists or therapists (emotional and physical)? If SO that must be one of the more dumber remarks i have seen on the internet. Also, when your 12 year old, parents don't treat you like your 3. I am 12, and i don't need permission to go on the internet. And also the other 50 12 year olds i know, they don't need permission to go on the iternet ether, ok maybe like 10 lol...and its ok to ask for something, atleast your trying...

Now, now...calm down boom. I don't think blizard was insulting people who get therapy. You don't need permission to use the internet because your parents trust you, and I imagine you've earned that trust ...

I don't think the poster in question is young...just not very patient. Understandably frustrated...
