Core Duo vs Core 2 Duo - Page 2

I would like to say that I really appreciate all the people on the Alienware Forums. It seems most of you guys out there seem way more mature when it comes to posts then the ones from the Dell Forums.

It seems all the Dell customers complain about is their laptop they ordered or own. Things like Light Leakage, Keyboard wear, etc..

I guess Alienware makes a better PC since I don't read many complaints on the Alienware Forums.

So again, thank you guys for not flamming me when I had questions or suggestions, or even opinions.

Oh well... I guess I'll call up and change to 2.0 c2d from a 1.66 c1d...

Everyone will experience problems or have questions at some time or another. It's all about you how you approach the problem. If you act professionally and politely, you WILL get results and not be flamed out of your seat.

Nobody likes a whiner. But most will help someone in need as long as they are treated with respect.

That's the internet's biggest flaw. Anyone can get on it.

I'm a Dell customer too and I must say that I have had a great experience with them. I also helped my non-tech family members spec out Dell's. They work fine too.

I just love Alienware too!

Just because you are a Chevy guy, doesn't mean you can't like a Ford or too.

This place has been cleaned up a little over the past year or so. It was pretty nasty here at times. That's the one reason why I never posted until recently.

Thats me!!

Obsolete before arrival.... Thanks for the warning alienware!!

Then return it to Alienware, Pay the 15% restocking.. Buy the latest and be happy!! Problem solved.. OR... You can wait a bit and do the upgrade yourself to the Core 2 Duo.

15% will end up equally the current loss. I litterally ordered mine a few hours too early. Another poster ordered his the day after mine and was able to change the order today and I called and was denied.

I'm just going to live with it and get a 2.0+ Core 2 when I have the money.

That's what I am going to do. Trust me, you are not going to miss anything with Core 1 Duo. Just upgrade later. Be glad we can swap out the chip later.

Everything becomes "old" at some time or another. I got mine a few weeks before the new chip came out.

Am I worried? Nope!

I'm just upset that it wasnt even shipped yet and it was old. Mine got shipped today at 5:45pm. It was litterally in there hands while it was obsolete.

If I had in a week or two it might be different. I don't even have a laptop to play with and have to wait 5 more days. I have to stew on it for 5 days to even see how good it will be.

You will not be able to tell a difference, I promise you. Sometimes people allow numbers (Benchmarks) drive them crazy!!! Wait til you get the machine, if it runs great, then AWESOME.. if not.. upgrade. But unless your doing some heavy 3d Rendering or tons of encoding, it won't matter.

And as for Vista, bleh! Just run Linux with XGL and wet your pants..

Trust me. I feel for you, but it is not that bad. This happens all the time in the tech world. Just be happy for the following things:

1. The Dore 2 Duo is not vastly (or even a lot) superior to the original.
2. Our systems are VERY upgradeable. Upgrade later when the 2+ ghz procs fall in price.
3. You are getting an ALIENWARE!

Play your heart out on it and you'll never notice the difference in a heated BF2 match or on a raid in WoW.

It's not that bad.

I play Everquest 2, the game that requires a nuclear sub-station to run on full settings.

I got the M5750. I played EQ1 allot and I think EQ2 is a bit more hardcore then WOW, undisputably better graphics too.

ATTN: First m5550 Review w/new 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU.

One thing that's new, all Core 2 Duos are 32/64-bit. So does that answer the question someone had about Vista?

I also read somewhere, and I can't verify this, but I thought I read that the m5550 can actually take 4 gb (2x 2 gb) of memory, but w/Windows XP (32 bit), sees 3 gb. The 4 gb would be seen by Windows XP Pro x64 (64 bit) and Vista (64 bit). Maybe someone else would know if this is true or not?

I don't know if 2 gb PC2-5300 DDR2 laptop memory is even available, but if it is, it's probably very expensive at the moment.

If this is all true, this certainly extends the m5550 lifespan by quit a bit.
