Linux on 8890 with maxed out ram

Thread Starter
Has anyone successfully installed Linux on an 8890 or 5680 with the memory maxed out at 2 GBytes? I'm curious because a couple of years ago I ordered a desktop running RedHat Linux with the memory maxed out at 4 GBytes for work and the vendor had troubles getting Linux to work with all the memory - actually, they had to reduce the memory to 3.5 GBytes. The advertised reason for the trouble was that the video card was using some of the top end of the memory address space. Since for a dual channel memory system I must have two matched memory sticks, I'll be in trouble if I buy 2 of the 1GByte sodimms. So, has anyone actually successfully installed and used Linux on an 8890 or 5680 with memory maxed out at 2 GBytes?

Thanks,

Dave

To run anything above 800MB or so, you need to enable high mem in the kernel - thats all. If need be, you can have up to 64 gigs that way... My gig-o-RAM works beautifully under Gentoo.
