Placed my order today for a 3450 Could NOT Resist - Page 2

Congrats on the imminent arrival! On the RAM, noldo is right...don't worry about the Latency numbers. This can be important for people doing high performance overclocking, but won't be noticeable on your notebook.

RE matching pairs...yes, that's the ideal, but you can run 2 different sized RAM modules in your system (e.g., if you order just a 1GB stick, you might as well leave one of the 256MB stock sticks in there for a total of 1.25GB). [If anyone has any different views on the issue of matching RAM - please post, as my info is from research and not actual use on a Core 2 Duo system).

OK I am guessing its still at AW just entered into fedex for pickup, cuz as of 1pm today (even tho i got tracking info yesterday) its still not even showing in the fedex system so it probably hasn't been picked up yet (missed yesterdays outgoing pickup) that bites but either way I know this time next week i should have it.

Ya - AW sends the package information to FedEx and receives a tracking number, then they pass it on to you. You should see progress today on the pickup.

Here's how mine went so far:

September 6- (Miami, FL)
5:51PM Package information transmitted to FedEx
6:33PM Picked up

September 7- (Orlando, FL)
12:30AM Arrived at FedEx location
4:53AM Departed FedEx location

I called FedEx's automated number out of curiosity (The truck hasn't stopped, so was it coming straight here?), read the machine my tracking number and it told me the package was en route to the distribution center right here down the street.

Apparently my laptop is on a truck coming straight from Orlando to here and dropping off packages for farther north as well. That's awesome, but it still says the estimated deilivery is Tuesday, the driver must be sleeping in and taking his time

Shazza - I think leaving one of the 256 stock RAM in and buying a 1GB stick would work fine. From what my own reading over the years Dual-Channeling RAm adds a 10% boost to overall performance. I doubt there would be much difference between 1GB Dual-Channel and 1.25GB. The 10% boost in performance would most likely be equal to gaining another 256RAM making both setups about equal. That's my opinion.

Fedex Just Came!

Ok I knew it wasn't the laptop (it's not even officially showing as picked up yet even) but it was the baseball cap I ordered at the same time as the laptop.

Apparently they can ship a tshirt with laptop but can't ship a baseball hat?

Either way NICE cap, strange though that the hat itself was shipped in a plastic bag (nice in case the box got wet), yet the hat itself was VERY dusty (dusted off before photos).

Looked as though it was on a shelf for the last 2 yrs...

Nice hat though the back adjuster is a nice fabric & buckle type not velcro or cheesy trucker plastic with the holes and nubs to adjust...

I HAD to be home and sign for this, he left a door hanger yesterday no signature card no alternate delivery - mandatory signature "with id"? required.

I told him it was just a hat not the actual laptop I ordered and we both laughed about that as I opened it in front of him...

Bill

EDIT wife came home and I showed her the cap, she showed me the threading on the back how its all coming out, the darn threads on the alienware.com on the back are literally coming out and the A in Alienware is all goofed up.

I guess I didn't look close enough at it (threading wise from the inside)...time to email Alienware...

Ok I just checked status on shipping shows picked up today Sept 8th estimated delivery date Sept 15th - WTH?

True the cap was scheduled for today and actually came yesterday (but I wasnt here to accept delivery) but still FL to MI isn't THAT far...

I will still be home early on wed thur hoping for a bit earlier delivery.

Hope they put enough Thermopaste on my cpu so I don't have to send it back like Skylegend did.

SKy, hope yours comes back working good now...

Yep - Mine was picked up on the 6th and estimated delivery date is the 12th. FedEx doesn't deliver on weekends and their ground shipped is "guaranteed to deliver in 1-5 days". I'd expect your laptop will arrive Thursdya or Friday then.

I know it sucks. Mine would probably be here on the weekend, but I'm going to have to wait too.

The drivers won't drive straight to Michigan, so it's a 2 day trip. I'm sure they have limits on how much they can drive before they have to sleep/break. My package shows as leaving Orlando and heading straight to Michigan, so yours is probably doing the same. Then it has to go through the distribution centers and any deliveries that come before you. So about a 3 day process? But since weekends slow it down, we have to wait a little extra.

What's going to suck is unless they deliver before 9 on Tuesday, or deliver it Monday, I'll be in class until 11 and I'll miss it

Doesnt deliever on weekends? Sure they do, or atleast they do around here. They have before, and my estimated delievery date is today (Saturday). Last time I checked my tracking, the package was 1 state away and I know it should be here by today (this afternoon). Might just be your state / area that they dont. But they do around here as far as I know.

They aren't very clear about when they deliver here. I keep being told by people I know they don't deliver on Saturdays or, like the USPS, on Sundays. FTLOSM and I are both in MI.

As of 10:30AM Saturday it still shows "Left FedEx location" in Orlando and no updates .

Re: Fedex Delivery

I thought Fedex didn't deliver on Saturdays either, especially in Arizona. My tracking information from Fedex can be found in the attached thumbnail below. I'd keep check the tracking information just in case Fedex messed up and forgot to update their tracking database for whatever reason. It may vary from state to state, region to region. Good luck.

Noldo66 appears to have a stork arriving today too! If I were you I would stick around the house to sign for that puppy...

Sadly mine still says nothing about it even arriving anywhere...

Mine got here this morning without any issues.

My tracking info:
haha they jumped up to 949$ today
They were always $949, but there was a special deal for a $100 instant rebate. Around August 1st the $200 instant rebate ended and went to $100, guess it ended now, too.
it doesen't say it ended...

OUCH!

I just did the reconfigure for the laptop coming to me tomorrow (fedex says tomorrow is still the estimated date anyways), and i did part for part equal and it comes to

$1,4458.00 total

I paid $1266 total for same package so I guess at this point I am doing ok still price wise, figured by the time I got the laptop it would no doubt drop a few bucks but weird to see it MORE now then when I ordered it 2 days after core 2 duo was announced, it dipped to 749 for like 1 hour and i jumped on it...glad I did i guess, still in 2 months something newer better and cheaper will be out..I just hope by then that horse and cart finally gets MY laptop to me. hehe
