Hi guys,

Looks good man, the 7900GS overclocks nicely, check out some of the threads here. You will be able to play the latest games on good settings.

I have the same e1705 with similar specs, I haven't o/c the GPU and I still get good results from the card, I play BF2 and Warhammer 40k with no problems all on high settings, I use the Geforce Mobile Xtreme drivers as well. My only issue is the fonts are too small to read in the native resolution.

To put it simply: Yes. It's a good laptop. That's a good price. Get it; you won't be disappointed. I have the 7800go and play most games on high. The 7900 is even better. No worries. But if you plan on playing the newest games, I'd recommend 2GB ram. I have 1 GB and am constantly running out...

I would not recommend overclocking it, laptops get hot enough already. Anyway the 7900gs is the most powerful notebook video card out (as far as I know, I could be wrong) so it should run any game in the market on very high, if not THE highest, settings.

The 7900 GTX is more powerful, but only available in the M1710. There is also a Quadro 2500 in the Precision M90... and some notebooks have SLI. But the 7900gs is the best for the price quoted...

E1705 with 7900GS can handle any current game at 1920x1200 with more than enough fps. 7900GTX is obviously more powerful but it's not justified for current games yet unless you are planning to drive a monitor with higher resolution or too high AA. Even for future proofing I'd not recommend GTX as overclocked GS goes pretty close to GTX and none of them are DX10 compliant. Also, what I heard is that 7900 cards can't drive monitors with resolution higher than 1920x1200, so 7900GS is your best bet unless you want to go M90 route. E1705 is very powerful for all other tasks as well (I use it to run application servers along with database for work related testing and media encoding). The slowdown I experience sometimes is because of low memory (and 1.66GHz processor) I have but other than those few instances, it's

Thanks guys, help me a lot!

So, tell me, and about the Core 2 Duo available now? Is it worth instead Core Duo T2400?

And about Crysis? An 7900GS will be able to run this?

Do you know any E1705's benchmark?

Thanks

Well you will notice that the Core 2 Duo processors have the higher clock speeds, 2ghz and 2.13ghz. Personally, I was actually waiting for the Core 2 Duo to come out, because it is supposed to be more efficient and thus more powerful, while taking up about the same amount of power and outputting about the same amount of heat. If you would have gotten the Core Duo 2ghz, get the Core 2 Duo 2ghz, and likewise with the 2.13, but I bought my E1705 yesterday after waiting weeks for the Core 2 Duo to finally come out, and I'm happy with my decision of the 2ghz Core 2 (of course, I don't physically have the laptop yet, but I am quite sure it will be very powerful).

As far as Crysis, I don't know much about it but I'm sure the 7900GS will be able to run it. Maybe not at high detail and high resolution, but I don't think a computer game company would release a game that only the newest, most powerful computers can run. Their audience would be very, very small, and so their profits would be very, very small.

Since its just $70 more, I'd get it because the performance will be about 40-50% over T2400. But if all you wanna do is gaming, then it may not be worth. But considering vista release is around the corner, I'd surely get it.

If nothing else, at least there is some future proofing in terms of 64-bit OS.

Ricky : If you are having a buyer's remorse, you can still cancel the order if it's not yet shipped. If already shipped, you can contact Dell and let them know your wish, they'll surely spice it up in terms of money if not Merom.

i think right now the t7200 is the best way to go in the e1705 and coincidentally its the cheapest core 2 duo offered(there are only 2 available), why wouldnt you want to futureproof yourself? i understand ppl have reservations about paying more, but for a machine that will last longer when vista comes around, you are definetly going to get your money's worth! In fact i took my own advice, and will report back with an e1705 core 2 duo sometime after sept. 12th

Get that laptop and be happy... I have the Duo Core 1 version of it and seriously you won't be unhappy! That graphics card is pure incredible...
Be sure to buy warrenty though, in-home... You'll never want to be away from it.

I have one suggestion. Get the 667Mhz DDR2 RAM. The Core 2 Duo has a 667Mhz FSB, so running the memory and CPU FSB synchronously will give you a nice boost of speed for the games you want to play. Or at least buy it after the sale from Crucial, if you want to save some money on it.

My two cents...

Yonah (Core Duo) has 667MHz FSB, too.

And For Intel platform, syncing RAM and FSB is not a big issue as AMD platforms.

But for AMD platform now with IMC, syncing FSB and RAM is already irrelevant.

Do not go cheap on the warranty man. It's worth every penny down the years. I would sugguest you to max it.
