I only got 1 year warranty as I don't know how Dell will enforce their warranty service..

But after I seen quite some good words about it, I might extend my warranty.

That's a great laptop and the price is fine. I have a T2300E (1.66GHz/667FSB) with 1GB of RAM (just upgraded yesterday) and it rocks! I can play whatever I want with great graphic quality.

I got an M90 through the Outlet a couple days ago and it had a dead pixel. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise as C2D just came out and I returned it for a new E1705. I agree that the extended warranty is well worth it. Can't wait!!

is the *extended* warrenty the 4yr Premium Solution Package?

Go for the longest warranty you can, and for the love of all that is holy and good in the world, get the complete care coverage.

The forums are full of people that have damaged systems, or systems that develop issues that Dell has replaced/upgraded.

Oh yea, and RAM too. Don't skimp on that. (Aftermarket *is* cheaper, but not covered by Dell support.)

I hate to hijack the thread with a question here about warranty. With my 6400 I just bought the 3 year normal warranty. Is it possible to still upgrade to the complete care warranty?

Dell wouldn't fix the dead pixel situation w/ M90??

Initially no, then I got them to do an exchange for a new M90, which might've been too good to be true, who knows, I've read all the horror stories around here about exchanges. After giving it some thought I didn't want to bother upgrading to C2D myself nor did I want to spend more money when it is similarly priced to Yonah. The E1705 price configured through EPP was great w/ the 4 yr warranty, plus I don't have to worry about upgrading now.

I thought you can only add it around the time of purchase or renewal of the warranty, so ideally you should be able to. Just give Dell a call, maybe a nice rep will hook you up.

I'm about to purchase a E1705 and am debating between the ATI x1400 and the Nvidia Go 7900gs... how much will the go 7900 reduce my battery life?
The 7900GS is actually a low wattage card. And it only really pulls power under heavy load, like gaming. Get the 7900gs and the 9-cell if you are worried about battery life.

For the thread creator, I've had an e1705 for a couple of months and I love it. A few issues: First, Dell's software install sucks, so use Dell Decrapifier or better yet, reinstall Windows. Second, the DVD-RW sucks. It's a Sony, and it specializes in coasters. Get the bottom-of-the-line CD-ROM and upgrade to a slot-load through Newegg or something. Third, and this is just my large hands issue, my thumbs always hit the trackpad and make the cursor jump. I'd prefer to disable the trackpad and use an external mouse.

But there is simply not a lappy on the market that can run with the E1705/7900gs combo for the price Dell charges.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, really thanks for the help.

I'm still waiting for a coupon to buy this baby. ^^

Just one thing that come up to my mind: when the DX10 graphics cards will be released? Is it time to wait?

Thanks
