Dusty Fans - 90 C

Thread Starter
I just started playing Guild Wars Factions yesterday (have a lvl 10 Assassin/Ritualist) and everything was going fine. I was playing with max settings and getting over 60-100 fps almost everywhere. Then all of the sudden, my game crashed. My screen was covered with colorful lines (like the tv when the movie is messed up). I felt my laptop and it was insanely hot. I probably could of burned my finger. When I started up my comp. again, my GPU was idle at 60 C. Then once I started playing GW again, I minimized it and checked my temps. I was shocked to see that my GPU was almost at 90 C and my CPU was at about 70 C. I decided it had to be the fans because air wasn't coming out (it was on max speed). After spending 2 hours taking about my computer and cleaning my fans, my temperatures have been dramatically lowered. I haven't crashed once yet on GW (my second day)

So what I'm trying to say is, if you haven't cleaned your laptop for about 6 monthes, go do it now

I just want to thank you guys for helping me with everything, couldn't have done it without this forum. Cheers ;p

#1, what was your max temp, you know that? Tabbing out will usually give your gpu time to lower about 20°C before you can see the temp, since the load is taken off and it doesnt produce anymore heat. The only reliable way to figure out your real temp is to check the lines on the monitor and to check the max achieved temp. Your GPU was probably more around 110°C if GW crashed, I play stable @ 93°C NFS-MW. Anyhow, yeah, fans clog up quickly, can can really heat up your comp.

Just out of curiosity, do you have some sort of stand for you laptop, or does it just sit on the table? Thx,

Franz

A can of empty Kodiak. Worth a million bucks. Drops temps about 10 degrees on both the CPU and GPU.
