Thread Starter
Hi guys

Just read that:

Anybody maybe got some pics of the machine?

Thanks

I would have to guess it's going to look exactly the same. There was also a posting elsewhere in this Asus section about another version of the A8, but with a Turion X2 processor - A8Tm. Hopefully we'll get some info on that one soon too.

I seem to recall that the MR x1700 is a figment of someone's imagination. I'm guessing that's supposed to read x1600

No release date for A8JP in the US but A8Js is coming soon.
Could you elaborate on when "coming soon" might be?
The X1700 is the newly released X1650.

Why oh why must it be October? Why can't it be September 1st!

Probably, the release date is controlled by manufacturer, not by dealer. Any people don't know about this until the announcement from them.
Cheers

well the ATI site http://www.ati.com/developer/vendorid.html Lists the X1700 mobility as an RV530 part which would basicly be the Desktop X1600 series, it's possible it's only faster clocks (comperable to desktop parts) and fast GDDR3 memory, however ATI orginaly intended a new core that was to be a 24/8 configuration for the X1700 series, compared to 12/4 config for the X1600. It seems that they are scaling back, there was orginaly intended to be a faster core with the GDDR4 on their new flagship that would be built on .8 nm process, somewhere there seem to be problems.

It looks like Nvidia is leaking the existance of GF 7700 Go products as well, though the 14.1" Asus that seems to have them is hindered by very poor battery life, so they are likely a bit warm and a shade on the power hungry side.

Somehow I get the impression that last generation's ATI chips had a much better performance/heat/battery ratio than the current generation ones. x700 wiht 4 hours of battery was easily achievable. Some people also mentioned how Asus had to downgrade the graphics chip on the v6j to a 7400go because of heat and possibly power issues with the newer chips. I just wish they would have made the a8j with a modular cd drive so an extra battery could be inserted in.

Well the Laptop Logic review is finaly up, they claim 9750ish points in 3dmark 2003, which looking at some older desktop benches of Nvidia products like the 6800 GS I am going to guess translates into roughly 4400~4700 points in 3dmark 2005. Fairly underwhelming it's even worse when you look at the A8Js's battery life of around 2.5 hours. I would say it's safe to bet that the 7700 Go is a 7600 go with higher clocks.

Looks like the X1700 mobility is going to based on the french review of the A8Jp I found going to be an X1600 with a lower power draw core, clocked 475/400 vs 475/380 for the X1600 mobility, looks like the 7700 and the X1700 are both duds and not studs.

So poor battery life on the X1700 as well? And is the A8Jp definitely not coming to N. America?

ASUS A8Jp Yonah+X1600 vs. Merom+X1700 http://xtreview.com/articles.php?id=139

"we could compare this last with Radeon Mobility X1600. Surprised: that the performances of the two chips being identical. ."

" it seems that the passage from M56 to M66 means for ATI changing foundry with with the key of lower thermal release, the new graphics chip is manufactured by UMC and not by TSMC."

Normally, ATI x1600 is similar to Nvida 6600 Go. All of us are expecting to see the difference between ATI x1700 and Nvida Go 7600. After a testing by 3dmark05 or 06, we will get a result of it.

really? I thought the x700 was similar to the 6600 go being a former z70va owner. This is surprising indeed!

slight correction:
ATI x700 is approximately = to Nvidia 6600
ATI x1600 is approximately = to Nvidia 7600
ATI x1700 should be approximately = to Nvidia 7700

oh~ yes, just a typing mistake, expecting to see the difference of them ATI x1700 and Nvidia 7700.
