The problem is the G/card
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Graphics are these any good i have tried doing a google on them but just basicly get the info they are excellent.. i want to know if its worth while spending this cash on a laptop that wont do what i want.??

If this card is rubbish, does anyone know of a good laptop that will offer better G/cards for around that amount??

Cheers for any help you can offer..

Sorry for duplicate post (was not sure where to post this)

it's an integrated graphics interface.
it's good for basic gaming and video watching. Not all that great for good to intense gaming.

Do you know of a good make that have laptops with good G/cards in for low ish prices.. Dell want around £300-£400 to put a nvidea card in when customising a laptop.. thats stupid..!!

I take it by the money sign you are in the UK.
Well, the only way around this is if you get one that might be 2nd hands, as most laptop with a dedicated graphics chipset for gaming will not be less than $1500, which is about £900. What games are you planning to play on this?
So I can help you out a bit.
My MSI s271 has the 1150 on it and it played CIV 4 on it w/o an issue

Yeah from UK.. found a few sites that have them acernotebooks.co.uk have them but tbh i dont really know what i am looking for.. i could possible go up in price if it was a good one, as for games just the latest ones out as i pretty much want a future proof laptop that wont be outdated in about 5 yrs or something (i know this is hard to predict)..

i have no idea as to which is the best make/model thats why i have searched for a forum so i can ask .. thanks for the help so far..

Any makes/models you suggest i will check see what prices i can get them for

As for 2nd hand from the likes of ebay and such i dont really trust ebay with items of that value as you dont know where its come from..

Cheers

Haha, laptops are outdated within a yr and a half. LoL
THen you would be better off with a dedicated video card.
Integrated are meant for basic features and very light gaming.
You are looking to go at least with a 7400 from NVIDIA and a X1600 from ATI.
For it to be at least future proof.

There's a faq around here.
What screen size are you looking into?
Is it going to be mobile a lot or some of the time?
What are the top 3 features you will need it for?
Is battery life important?

and dual core cpu

i know the nvidea cards are expensive not sure of the x1400 ?

Acer Aspire 5672WLMi just for an example..?

That looks pretty sweet.
It has a lot of added features too, like a webcam and such. Plus the $99 3yr warranty is pretty cheap.

But this one is a ATI x1400 are these a good card??
as long as it has over 64mb dedicated to video it will be good.
This one has 128mb, some have up to 256mb. Try to go for the 256mb dedicated. If they are out of your reach, go for the 128mb dedicated video

His and your statment are both really loaded.

If I buy a midrange laptop right now, if say all I wanted to do was watch dvd's in my bed, websurf, and talk on messenger services. Then, how long could i expect a 700 dollar laptop to last me? Given I hear theres a new format of dvd coming out, my brother was speaking to me about. The name of it passes my mind atm. But thats neaither here nor there.

The laptop could last me 2 years, prolly 3, for my needs.

Now in the sence of gaming......youre correct, not many laptops will last you a year or 2, at most. Speicaly if your a hardcore gamer.

an x1600 for a light gamer would last over 2 years speicaly its a 256mb of ram version

save your quid and wait a bit. Are you in dire need of a new laptop?
if you are then that's different.
the core2 duo's are out now and everything is swarming over them. The market should calm down a bit soon. Also, X-mas is around the corner and they usually have massive discounts.

Bought this one.. seems good enough for me, twice more stuff that other acer..

2048mb DDR2
160gb HDD
17" HD screen
dual core T2400 cpu

even has lightscribe.. not that i would use that i dont think

But i thought this was well worth the money, and it plays all the games i want.. FEAR everything..
